Overclocking is more then a fun hobby then an exploration for better performance. if you want better performance overclocking will not satisfy you with 1-5FPS extra go buy new hardware

I have an E6750 that I've overclocked from 2.66Ghz to 3.2Ghz. At some point I should probably reduce the clock speed to stock and see if it makes a difference anywhere.
But it certainly makes me feel better.
Cheers!

Just built my new system !!!
Q6600 2.4Ghz - Overclocked @ 3.6Ghz --- Running Stable and cooled.
4 GB Of DDR3 XMS Corsair
Asus P5E3 MOBO
BFG Nvidia 8800 Ultra GTX
ARmor Thermaltake Case
Hi-Fi Fatality Sound Card
Ultra X Power Supply 800 Watts
Zalman CPU fan Cooler
Dominator Fan for Memory
I get 30fps locked at 30 fps on fs2004..... I could run the most demanding sceneries and aircraft like PMDG for example with all the weather and extra programs I run while flying and my system will not drop a frame rate.
Iam really happy with it and satisfied with its performance.
To those of you who wish to overclock, Please do alot of research on forums. There are alot of things to know behind Overclocking.
Donot ruin your perfect computer parts !!!
If you need help or wish to get alist of the forums I belong to please feel free to shoot me an email I will be happy to send you a list of forums to read.

if you are new to overclocking i recommend heeding manuel's advice. read, read, read, and read some more before trying to do anything.
overclocking parts does not guarantee performance boost, but you will see an improvement depending on parts you are overclocking. the cpu is usually the most overclocked part, followed by memory.
one tip i have for you is to understand the relationship between core clock, fsb, and memory clock. once you get that down pat, overclocking becomes a bit easier.
my personal experience with overclocking started on my old pentium d which i oc'd to 4GHz. that jump showed little or no improvement from before. my new chip is oc'd from 3.0GHz to 3.6GHz and it showed a big performance increase, around 20%.
the people at tom's hardware (goolge it) have gotten really great results with some low performance parts such as the c2d 2100 series of chips. they were able to overclock these cpu's about 50-80% of their stock speed, reaching performance levels seen in the e6550 and e6750. but as i said before, your personal results may not be the same as theirs.
if you have a pc that will most likely see the dump in the near future, i recommend experimenting overclocking on that. but if you plan on keeping it for a while, dont play with the settings unless you know what youre doing.
hope that helps

Keep in mind as well that once you start overclocking, you throw any warranties out the window.

Well guys I think that I have come to the conclusion that I will spend the time I have simming on being the best pilot I can be and leave the computer tweeking to those who are smarter at that stuff than I am.
This all started because I was talking with a guy at work last week who worked for Nvidia. We were discussing FSX frame rates and he felt that I should be getting better that 20fps. I called the people who built my computer and we discussed a Quad Core processor. There was a breif discussion on the ability to of FSX to run in Quad Core, and the Vista op system came up, and so did overclocking.
After doing some Cooler searches I foud some stuff that you guys posted on graphis card settings, adjusted them and started getting a big increase in frames.
I want to fly more commercial stuff with FSX, and now with Radar Contact installed and the PIC 737FSX I think I can and be happy.
Thanks again guys for the responses.
