Ok, this is more of an idea I want to float, but I've been thinking about this for a while. I use a Logitech Attack 3 USB joystick, which was fine back when I did all my flying on my desktop. Since I've switched to the laptop, I've been wanting to go back to the desktop (after a full format and strip of Windows to get only what I need for FS). What I want to do is break apart the joystick so that some components (throttle, some buttons) and the grip are suitable for use with a desk with the base ending up on the floor. Some of the buttons not on the grip and the throttle are a separate unit, so I could in theory splice in a longer wire, solder it up and attach it to my old desk chair. I can then build out the throttle so that I have a bigger grip (even if it's slaved across all engines) and the stick in a better spot. What I want to know, mainly, is if this would work? The electronics and wiring part of this seems simple enough, and I know enough to get everything done right. What do the masses think?

I did run across a site where the owner did something similar to what you described. I'll have to dig around to see if I can find it. I suppose the warranty on your controllers would be null and void at that point though.

I've had this controller long enough that warranty is no loner an issue. I've been looking at the prices for the separate set-ups (like the ones from Saitek) but I cannot justify the expenditure to the home procurement department (my loving wife). No that I haven't tried...

Don't worry about the warranty on an Attack 3. When mine died they sent me a new one free of charge, no return needed. Not the world's most expensive joystick, but does the job. I replaced it with a Saitek Cyborg EVO a while back.
I have the same problem with convincing my "financial adviser" that spending the money for a full yoke/pedals/quadrant setup is really a good idea...

I showed her some pictures of the fully complete homebuilt cockpits and she told me that if I buy her a horse and all the trimmings that go with it, i can have one.... I guess I'll keep waiting.

My whole point is that right now, I am a broke post college student with a 16 month old daughter. I don't have any spare money for anything at all. Gotta love being young and broke!
