I'm planning on buying a new desktop (or laptop) and I have a few questions about RAM. First, is there a significant difference between 667MHz and 800MHz (of 2GB DDR2 SDRAM)? If so, would it be better to just acquire 3 GB of RAM on my new system? And, for those with laptops, what are some of your specs as far as RAM and Video Card types is concerned? Thanks in advance.

Depends also on wich operating system you get. Vista requires more RAM as XP. Also depends on how many money you have. There are already laptops with SLI 8800 GTX graphic cards, but they are expensive. Also depending wich sin you fly, FS9/X. Normally i think at least 3G would be good. Vista 32B uses max 2.5 G.

I'm planning on eventually switching to FSX by the end of the year, and I will be getting Vista. And I'm looking for any deal under a thousand bucks.

in that case, dont expect too much of FSX, performance=money. Personally i say, better FS9 with lots of addons, instead of FSX. Same beauty and effects. But thats not the point in this thread.

I've got Vista 32bit with 2G DDR2 800 RAM in this machine, and it runs FSX and FS9 with sliders maxed out both like a dream. It also depends on your processor and graphics card. I've got the NVIDIA 8600GTS and the 2.2GHz Core 2 Duo in.

well Weston, i'n got Vista32B, 4G DDR2 800 (Vista only uses max 2.5G in 32Bit) NVIDIA 8800GTX CORE2DUO 3.0GhZ, and with all slides opened, in FSX, its still not what it should be. Many times, i think, people say, with me, its all perfect, but sometimes...i find it hard to believe....i'v no clue where the differences are.
Cheers
