Steve Jones wrote an article in Delta Fly lastest edition and several DVA Executive types have referred to it lately, BUT Steve's instructions don't always work---but thanks Steve for your effort
Instead of changing FS9 files (some which may have already been amended by add-ons), by far the easiest way is to download FS Facility from http://library.avsim.net/search.php?SearchTerm=fs9+facility+editor&CatID=root&Go=Search
THIS IS A FREE DOWNLOAD
This simply program lets you add VOR, VOR/DME, DME, NDB, and Intersection/fix to your "Addon Scenery\Scenery" file in FS9 without disturbing the original FS file programs. It keeps a back-up copy of your entry and the only reseach you need to do before hand invovles Latitude/longtitude (at www.airnav.com) as well as altitude and region. The program gives you an example page to follow and instructions are clear and easy. Entries are made on a "doss" like screen
A couple of tips--- the Region is a 2 letter or Letter/number ICAO combination which can be obtained from programs such as "RouteFinder" (ie Pittsburgh is K6)
The default FS9 locator document is for C drive---if your FS9 is located on a different drive, you will need to change and save that document in Notepad
If you are entering a intersection for example where there is a large degree of magnetic variation noted on an Airport Chart, (say over 8°) the program allows for that entry.
Finally, when entering South Latitude or West Logtitude, use a minus sign
Example DILNE at Pittsburgh is 40° 28'04.60 N ; -080°52 32.49 W Oh yes the keyboard command for the degree sign is ALT + 0176 (from numeric pad)
I am now off to enter all those FLCON 3 approach intersections for KATL which are missing from FS9
I have searched for something like this for months and I hope it helps others. If you need assistance, you can email the distributor whoses email address is in the "read me" text or I might be able to help at mike42@eastlink.ca
