I signed up for the Mother's Day run that went last night, but I decided at the last minute to abort. This was due to two consecutive crashes of FSX in almost the exact same area while trying to do practice runs of the flight.
In both flights, shortly after turning away from the FL coast and heading towards the Bahamas, FSX died. The first time, I started getting graphics glitches on-screen and then FSX froze. The second time I was AFK for 10 minutes and when I got back, FSX was just a black screen, but the window hadn't closed. I had to manually end the task to get the window to close.
I have done KIAD - KATL runs with this setup before, but those runs barely reach 2 hours, block to block. The KATL - MYNN is a bit longer and I'm guessing that's the limit of my card's texture capabilities.
QX9650 Core2 Extreme
8GB RAM
Vista 64 SP1
BFG 9800 GTX OC (512MB)
FSX w/Acceleration Pak
No add-ons at all (A/C, Scenery, FMC, etc.)
Any ideas on what I need to do?

This may not be the answer to your CTD but its worth a try.I had similiar problems in FS9 at several locations. It was a season problem. When I changed the season I no longer CTD.

That actually sound more like a heat issue. Those nVidia 9 series cards are bad about heat.

I monitored the 9800 GTX's temperature the second run with HWMONITOR. It stayed between 60c and 62c the whole time.

If it's happening in the same geographic location, I'd bet it's a scenery issue. Try changing seasons and doing it again. I had a similar FS9 issue going east out of SLC in winter.
Cheers!

Lennoxx, go to the category where you want the thread to show up and look at the top of the list of threads. You will see a "Post New Thread" button in the middle of the screen.

I just tried this run again, this time without ACARS running. Not only did I make it there, I had to do a missed approach and the AI ATC sent me out to the racetrack holding position before vectoring me back in. I guess I needd to try it again with ACARS.
