So, fairly new computer, got it a couple months ago, no complaints but just today I'm having troubles with opening up software. Like double-clicking desktop icons or going from the "Start" menu. Any help is appreciated! thanks!

I'm new to PC's do you know how or where i can find out how o do that? And once/if I locate the virus what do I do? Also, should I be worried about like reinstalling Windows and losing all my data? The last thng i downloaded was the Super 80 by flight 1 (well made aircraft) but i admit my computer was acting weird after downloading that specific software, should i delete it? Anything would help guys! thanks!

You should invest in a good anti-virus program and anti-spyware software. Most new computers come with a trial anti-virus (McAfee, Norton, etc), so you may still be OK with that. Trial periods last between 3 months to a year. The first thing I would suggest you try is pick up some anti-spyware software. Although I'm sure just about everyone has their favorite, I've used Spyware Doctor and SpySweeper in the past and have liked them both. Yes there are freeware options out there (Adaware, S&D, etc), but I've noticed that the payware options are a bit more dependable. Install that software and run a scan. That may do the trick. If not, check our anti-virus status. Reinstalling Windows is typically only necessary in extreme situations.

Okay Cool and I got rid of some of newest downloaded files and now my computer is kind of coming back to life and i'm getting this "netch.exe application error" saying this: "The instruction at 0x0040a54b" referenced memory at 0x00174000. The memory could not be read. Click OK to terminate program." Does this help anyone understand the situation better. Thanks Larry i'll look into those applications!

That was exactly what was happening to me, "The instruction at 0x0040a54b" referenced memory at 0x00174000. The memory could not be read. Click OK to terminate program". I got more RAM and it fixed the problem. The error has to do with virtual memory, (I think).
