Hello Gentlemen,
Need a little help understanding how something like this can happen (and whether or not it's worth the hassle of fixing)...
Took off in my fleet L1011-100 (N728DA) on the DVA8012-1 flight (KDFW/EDDF), which is 5,136 NM. The flight took 10h24m.. yes, not exactly a walk around the park. Upon loading up with fuel, I took on 154,388.0 lbs (14,300 lbs short of filling her up), and then headed out across the Atlantic. I'm now told that the L1011-100 can't fly that far. Uhhh, what? Does the ACARS flight log, or the VATSIM flight report, not show that I just flew the aircraft 5,136 NM?.. and I didn't even have full tanks when I lifted off.. I could've flown for another hour.
Apparently, the fuel tanks on the fleet L1011-100 are too large, or the fuel consumption rate(s) are not calibrated correctly for the Rolls Royce engines. I don't know which, but I do know having my 10+ hour flight trashcanned because the distance I flew is outside of a FLEET aircraft's range is begging for trouble.
Sincerely,
Gary FourneratCaptain, L-1011-100
