Last night, my computer froze twice. All I was doing was chatting on MSN, and had Windows Media Player running. Both times, the sound was killed first, and then the PC froze, and had to reboot by hand because nothing worked. That same thing had happened about 6 months ago, twice or more times too, but it stopped that same day.
Today I was flying on FS, with Media Player running too. I was about to start my approach, so I minimized FS, went to Media Player, and closed the program. But when I went back to FS, my aircraft textures (Dreamfleet), and scenery textures (FlyTampa) had dissappeared, and never loaded again. The rest of the textures (terrain, sky, clouds) were OK.
In addition, half my sounds in FS were not working. Engine soundset was NOT working, but ATC, flaps, gear, callouts were working fine. FS also began to make this loud "intereference" noise, that went on and off in seconds, along with the sound of my Dreamfleet "RRRIIINGGG" warning bell.
Finally, I tried going to my desktop to see if I could get a temp reading on my cards. I couldn't start Windows Explorer, or any other program, a window with a message that said: "The program could not be initialized because xxxxxx (bunch of numbers) process could not be initiated".
I landed anyway I could, closed FS, went to my desktop, and after several minutes, everything was working fine. Including Media Player and Explorer.
Now, all I have done to my computer is to install the newest NVIDIA drivers, which haven't been a problem and in fact, solved some problems. The video card is running at 50°C, which seems decent.
I also ran a defrag with O&O last Friday.
I'm thinking this is more of a sound card problem. It's a not-so-old Soundblaster Live 24bit.
Any ideas guys? Thanks!

Actually, half the sounds you hear in Windows (clicks, etc) were not working either while FS was running.
My computer specs:
Pentium 4 HT @ 3Ghz FSB800Mhz
NVidia GeForce 8500GT Turbocaché 512MB
Soundblaster Live 24bit
WD 250GB SATA HD

David.
I have only experienced that once before while usiing iTunes. Was doing just fine until one of the songs in my iTunes seemed to lock up and then I locked FS up. I am running a dual core pentium at 4Ghz with RealTek HD sound card and an ATI 3700 HD Turbo Vid. I think you mau just have a sound card conflict or the card is being overwhelmed and running home....

Yeah, I've had the "half the sounds just stop playing for awhile" problem many times before. Upon checking my sound settings in the control panel, it appears that my audio device just completely vanishes for no real reason at all. And even though I have "No Audio Device," I can still hear some sounds in Windows. It's very strange. At any rate, a reboot fixes it every time it comes up (which isn't too often).
