Hello All... I have a question. My computer is starting to sort of break down, slow down, and now it wont even open FSX!!! I know its a hardware problem and that I need to have mine replaced. I was planning to have a new video card put into my computer and some more RAM, but with this hardware problem, I'm not sure that would be smart to do. So my question to you guys is, should I just Buy a new computer(which is a HP - Pavilion Desktop. Intel Pentium Dual-Core processor E2180; 3GB DDR2 SDRAM; DL DVD±RW/CD-RW drive; LightScribe labeling; 500GB hard drive; Windows Vista Home Premium with SP1), or buy new hardware for my older computer then upgrade it?

My advice is: build a new computer from the scratch. IMO, it'll be cheaper than getting parts for an older motherboard, and a lot cheaper than buying a commercial brand PC.
Plus, if you build a new one, it'll last longer with new technologies being released every week or so, and you get to select what you want in it.
My second advice is DO NOT buy anything from HP computers. Every single HP thing I've owned (or have heard from someone who owns one), has broke down in less than 2 years. Horrible quality, and high prices.

That explains a lot. I have 2 HPs and both of them are breaking down.
So, Where do I start on building a New One?

Edit, David are there any websites that are good for letting you build your own pc from scratch as you suggested?

I wouldn't know my friend. I went to Newegg.com and started choosing components that would fit my budget.
I went to a local store, had them order the parts from the States, and then I just built it.
My PC (2 and a half years ago) cost around $600, with a Pentium 4 HT 3Ghz, ASUS Mobo (forgot the model, it's a lower end one), 1 Gig DDR2 RAM, WD 250GB SATA 7200RPM Hard Drive, and the 300W PSU.
You can get something more powerful for that money these days.

I guess I'll just end up building one from scratch.
Since I just need a new Hard Drive, a Video/Graphics Card and more Ram, I can use the desktop I already have right?
And if I even get the parts, I have no clue how to install them (LOL) im not smart like that.
One more question, im searching for RAM and to tell you the truth, I have no clue what im looking for. Any Advise on good Brands and what Specs to look for?

Not meaning to disagree, but are you sure that it's a hardware problem?
What are your system specs?

Hmm, on a second thought, you could have someone to build a computer for you, in case you don't know a whole lot about PC's. There's a lot of stores that do this, and should be still cheaper than getting another HP anyway
Just try and be there with them while they build it, so you can learn how to do it, at least as general culture.
You should be aiming for a Dual Core CPU (I prefer Intel), at least 2 GB or RAM, a GeForce 8800GT (have heard only good things about it) and some 250GB or 500GB of Hard Drive.

So I could just buy the components and have someone put them together? thats cool. I'll have to find someone who does that. I was planning on buying a GeForce 8800GT and a Seagate 500GB Internal Hard Drive.
Would have to just buy an Dual Core CPU and have someone put the Graphics Card and Hard Drive?
Kevin- You have mail.

Sure you can.
Just remember that everything has to be compatible with everything else. Motherboard, CPU, video, audio, hard drive, optical drives, power supply, etc.
You are no computer geek, but you can always go to a store and tell them that you "want these stuff in a new custom made PC". They should be able to handle the compatibility among the parts. Here's what I'd like in my PC (I'm a low-budget student so you can have better parts).
CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115037
VIDEO: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130318
RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145184
POWER: At least 500W
HD: At least 250GB. I like Western Digital.
AUDIO: Get a sound card. Gives a boost to sound quality, and lightens the load on the CPU. Creative Soundblaster is a good brand.
The case, motherboard and others can be handled by the store.

As a side note even though this conversation is already pretty deep, I was able to get my Aunt who is over 50 years old and the most computer literate to go on newegg.com and buy all the necessary items to build her own computer (with a little help from me of course). But what was truely amazing was that she was able to get most of it together fairly quickly. I was amazed at how well she did and after a few minor tweaks and adjustments we were loading the operating system and drivers. I think people think it is a really huge deal, but as long as they have a good place to buy their items and maybe a friend or two to guide them through it, most anyone can build their own and save themselves a lot of cash to spend on other goodies for the computer.

There is a really good website that goes into really great detail on picking components and building a pc. A little late but a great site.
http://www.mysuperpc.com Armanti, I have built all of my PC's, I can do it, any one can.
