Hi all,
This is my first post on this forum since joining Delta Virtual Airlines yesterday. I actually joined after having talked to a current member while I was flying online on VATSIM. Unfortunately, his name has slipped my mind (sorry).
As a new recruit, I am currently rated to fly the Boeing 757-200 with Delta Virtual Airlines. I own the Captain Sim 757 package, but am completely frustrated with it. I won't go into "why" too much other than to say that I think it's a package not worthy of "payware" status. I do own the PMDG B737-600, -700, -800, -900 package and I absolutely love it. I also own the Just Flight/Wilco 737 PIC, which includes the B737-300, -400 and -500. I was wondering if the Just Flight/Wilco or PMDG B737 packages are a higher level category aircraft than I am allowed to fly as a B757 First Officer?
I ask, as I really hate flying freeware or sub-standard payware when flying online. I like to give it my best and to fly a most realistic aircraft when I fly online. So is it possibly for me to "legally" fly the B737 (preferably the PMDG package) while I am a First Officer in the B757-200 program?
Hoping someone can help me with this enquiry.
Kind regards,
Matthew BelletteFirst Officer, B757-200

Matthew, welcome aboard! You are not rated to fly the Boeing 737, therefore any flights you fly will result in a rejected flight report. For freeware, our fleet 757 is not too bad. You may also check the "Promotions Manual" too see the procedure on changing equipment types.

Hi Manuel,
Thanks for the speedy reply to my post. I have checked out the freeware 757 from this site - it's alright. I do enjoy setting up before a flight with a good FMC, etc though. Will try it and see how I go.

What is it that you do not like about the freeware offerings? Is it the lack of FMC.. because that for me.. is a big reason why I dont use freeware either. I have a bunch of friends here that use models like the POSKY (google it.. you will find it easy) which are gorgeous.. and free..
and they use a FMC program addon which is ALSO free called VASfmc (google that) now i havent tried it yet.. but my friends from Delta here swear by it.
maybe that is an option but yeah if you arent rated in a aircraft you cant fly it.. and.. i was also not impressed with the captain sim 757 but if you move on up to the 767 I can whole heartedly recommend the LDS 767.. that is the best plane so far I have had.

Matt I was the same. When I started rated in the 75 and love the 73, my first flight got rejected, flying out of cat.
To promote, 10 legs in the 757, take the 73 FO exam and you will be rated in the 73.
In the 11.5 months I have been here I am rated in all the Boeings aircraft and a few others.
The VASfmc is a winner too.
Second to last....these guys here are just about the smartest in the world of simming, if you keep you eyes and ears open you will be amazed at what you can learn, I have been.
Lastly..........Welcome to Deltava.

I don't like freeware because of the overall quality - visually they don't look anywhere near as good (eg compare POSKY 747-400 to PMDG 747-400) on the outside or inside (especially VC) and they don't have a proper FMC (unlike PMDG 737, 747 and Level-D 767, which I also own). Having said that, POSKY is great to get going with if you are brand-new to MSFS and flying online - it cuts down on the workload considerably. I just prefer being able to fly a route including SIDs and STARs, using VNAV and LNAV and calculating fuel useage properly.
As for Captain Sim's 757, it is really a load of garbage. Visually, it's reasonably well done - better than most freeware. My lights play up when I select one from VC and go to overhead panel in 2D and it's showing up as not on, try using the heading or altitude knobs with the mouth wheel and I can't get the damn thing to stop rotating or if I use the mouse buttons, they go up and down in all sorts of increments (sometimes 1 degree or knot at a time, sometimes 3) and the FMC is basically useless. It's a shame really, as Captain Sim really did quite well with their C-130 (I own FS9 version).
Anyway, I am going to try to find a not-too-long flight to do in a freeware 757 and get that posted in my first flight report as soon as I can. Hope to see you all online in the virtual skies soon, so don't be a stranger and say hi if you see me!

I would like to move from 757 First Officer to 767 First Officer. Having read through the handbook on promotions, am I correct in saying that I need to do ten (10) flights and a theory test before I can move on to the 767? If I am wrong or if I have not included any other steps, could someone please correct me? I have the Level-D 767, love flying it and would very quickly build my hours up in this aircraft.
Hoping someone can be of assistance with this enquiry.

Hi Matthew, Welcome to Delta Virtual Airlines!
You are FO in the 757 Program. Doing 10 ACARS-recorded flights and taking the 757 Captain's exam will just make you... Captain. After becoming 757 Captain, you will have to take the 767 FO exam and Check Ride. Upon passing the 767 Check Ride, you will become a 767 FO.
If you would like to become 767 FO *without* becoming 757 Captain, then you will just have to complete 5 ACARS-recorded flights and then take the 767 FO exam & checkride.
More in the Document Library in the Pilot Center.
