Have a question for those that have one of these. How does the normal a/c 2D view
look?? Do they "stretch" gracefully or do they look distorted?? Any pros or con opinions
would be useful.

That link does not work, give me a whole page of complaints instead, but I'll take your word for it.
Must be nice, Costco has a nice 24" on sale for like $260, think I'm gonna get one tomorrow.

I have a 32 inch LCD, the 2d is streched a little but you get used to it, I don't notice it any more. The VC looks great however

I bought a 24 inch Dell about 6 months ago and no matter how I tweaked it I just could not get used to it. I returned it and am using the 19 inch I originally had.
I would like to see some more input on this too. As Don mentioned, my 2D was stretched too.

I have a 22" widescreen monitor (Chi Mei CMV221D) running FS2004 in 1680x1050 windowed resolution. If there's any distortion on the instruments, it's very slight and I don't notice it. I love that monitor, it's fantastic.

How do you guys dissipate the heat? I run two monitors and blow a fan across the monitors and still it is five degrees warmer in my cockpit room versus the rest of the upstairs.

Alan, such a showoff Having special video doesn't count, the issue is how
much distortion the display, which never expected widesreen aspect ratios,
has. I've actually seen at least one recent sim, I don't even remember which,
that had a specific knowledge of widescreen, but most won't.
Scott has given me pause, I'm going to have to find a way to see what its like
before I spend the money.
Thanks all,

Alan, does it 'stretch' between the screens (not recognizing the edge of the monitors as 'space' of the screen), or can you get it to recognize the edge of the monitor as being the 'screen'?

Will report back over the weekend.

Hey lets schedule a group flight and we can all go the Alan's house and fly on his "system".... at the same time!!! Ok, yes I am jealous. I am not even sending a pic of my set-up. I think I am suffering from monitor envy. I am off to sign-up for Hula lessons so I can start to feel better about myself.

Alan, yes, the world graphics in FSX is just beautiful with the WS monitor.
I am running 1920x1200, some 2D panels look stretched, I think the ones
that use a fixed bitmap for the panel are gonna be the worst.
I've just been learning about a solution to the problem, its called monitor
scaling, it makes your video card switch the monitor display to a non-WS
aspect ratio. I've not yet tried it, but it should make it possible to always
run in a mode that works.
OH, while FS9 will do the WS it shows its age pretty badly that way, it
makes FSX really shine though. It was hilarious, for the first time I could
actually make out the buttons on Wilco EJet panel, it is one of the ones that
actually look better in widescreen.
I'm even more tempted now to buy the PMDG 747X than before
