I know that you can fly any plane you are rated in on any flight (provided it's reasonable), but can you fly any plane on the Historic -8000- Flights? Or do you have to fly only the listed plane for that flight? For example; I want to fly LAX - Kai Tak but I'm not rated in the MD-11 or any of the other historic planes for that matter.
I tried looking in the Document Library and searchiing in the W. Cooler but found no definitive answer. Maybe I'm just blind in one eye and can't see out of the other!
Thanks!

I fly the ORD-MIA route. Its a 727 route but I fly the MD-88. You can substitute aircraft for ANY route.

you can fly any flight listed - historic or not, with any aircraft you are rated in - as long as the aircraft can make the flight.
For instance, you can take the DC-6 from LAX to HNL which was first done in 1941 - It has the capability to make it - it'll be a long flight - but doable. Or you can do it in an L1011. Range and rating are what you need

dangit all..... mister andrrew kaufmann.....
i been lookin forwerd tah flyin tah one of them there chineese or japanees towns in my write brothers flyer or that brite yella cub they got on 2004 sentry of flite. guess ther wernt no chance of them nice folks at delta verchuel puttin them planes on the storical list anyhow. delta wernt even a airlin when them write brothers was flyin in 1801!!! laff out lowd...
By the way Andrew, how long does it take to fly LAX-HNL in one of 'them' DC-6's? As a kid I flew from SLC to Elko Nev. on a DC-6? (pretty sure) in 1965. I thought it was going to fall apart with all the 'shake rattle and roll'. I remember watching ice chunks flying off the wings on the descent. In 1968 my family flew LAX-HNL on a Pan Am 707. What a difference. Pan Am even had mini lotion and cologne bottles to take in the lavs. I took a few. My RT ticket was only a hunderd bucks!
Where are those cute little cologne bottles now when we need them? Soon they'll have pay toilets and charge a fee to exit the plane! What was this thread????

lol - I'm going to do the DC6 LAX to HNL this weekend - may even do it this evening...not sure how long it will take, but my planning says it is going to take me about 7 hours and 34 minutes...now if the winds are terrible - I may bag it - but I'll be shopping for winds.
This is the route:

That's not as long as I thought, Cheif Pilot Kaufmann. I thought it would take about 12hrs. or something like that. What is the average KIAS/ALT/GS and range etc. for the DC-6?

Max cruising speed 251 knots with a service ceiling of 28K. The range on the B model is roughly 4900 NM with a full fuel load and no cargo...2400 nm with full payload
The flight straight line from LAX to HNL is about 2558 Miles - so either way it's a long flight - I planned about 220ish or so on the speed and right now, I'm going to cruise happily along at about 10000 AGL

It does sound fun Steve.
After I get the 727 rating I would like to get rated in the pistons. However, I remember reading in the Docs. that pilots are discouraged from obtaining more than 4 or 5 type ratings. I'm already rated in 4 types, NOT including the CRJ and the EMB120.
Ideally I would like to fly ALL the Boeings, MD-11 (DC-10), L1011, classic pistons and the Concorde. I do vary my aircraft quite consistently. All the planes are like people, each have a unique personality and some days my own personality quirks need just the right quirky aircraft. I could give up a rating or two, but then I think....no, that certain plane fits the right niche. Yes I'm weird.
How strict is this 4-5 type rating? Is it unsporting/greedy to obtain what I mention?

Steve, I read it in the Pilots Manual near the bottom of page 11.
"Cheif Pilots shall discourage additional rating requests from pilots qualified in more than four or five separate aircraft types".

Monty you're not weird. That's what I've read too. But I'm rated in all the DVA fleet, the Concorde is next. Not a Captain in everything, but rated. Mostly it's because of the payware that I have. I pretty much span all the categories. I'm working on the entire boeing fleet.. need to get the PMDG 737 and 747 and the PSS 757. Also do some turboprop work with the Flight 1 ATR 72-500 and live dangerously with MD in the Flight1 Super80. My long hauls are in the PSS 777, medium routes in the LD767 and Flight 1 727.
I use them all. Just depends on what I'm itching for that day.

Iam rated in all as well, including the concorde - which was actually very hard!
I try to fly all at least once every month for my own currency edification.
I actually find flying the airbus series the hardest. and like Art, I love the paywares.
I fly the DC-6 quite a bit for slow relaxing adventures - the next being the LAX-HNL

Good to know guys. It may take awhile - hate the tests - enjoy the checkrides (for the most part).
I used to fly the Concorde for another airline. Didn't have to be rated, but it was a difficult bird to master as you know Andy.
Art, I love the way you put it - using them all depending on the "itch" for the day. I think that's what I was trying to say earlier only better.
