I have a AMD Athlon 64 3700+, with 4GB of Ram, with a 7600GS. I am getting about 50fps(FS9) and 15fps(FSX). I am going to be upgrading a piece at a time. I am going to star twith the video card. I have narrowed it down to to HD4850 and 9800GTX, both 512MB. Future Upgrades upgrades will be Intel QuadCore around 3Ghz 4GB RAM, new hard drive. As the rest of the components are fine. FS is the only game played, other than that its a web browser and Jukebox. Any thoughts on this. Plan on spending around $200 on card. Rest of it, will be done at the end of year. Thanks for any comments or suggestions. Would like to run FSX in 1280x1024 at about 35-40FPS.

People with the 4800 cards say that clouds aren't such an issue now, but they can't change the AA in fsx. So they end up going back to their 8800 series cards.
John, you will be happy with that 9800GTX(+).

Also, john, do you have SP1 for FSX? I found that after I got it to work, my frames jump up about double.

to be honest. if you arent going to run x64bit or using all for cores in FSX to their maximum pontential, stay with the dual core like the E8500 or something like that. Quad cores, if used with 32bit only run up to a max of 50% CPU usage, so really your buying twice as much for half the performance. As for the graphics card the 9800GTX is a good pick, and to add to that i suggest going with eVGA, prominently because they have pretty good customer service, unlike XFX or BFG, and their cards seem to run alot faster and efficiently in some benchmark tests that ive run. Again though, if you are only going to stick with 32bit XP, stay at the max of 3gigs ram cause thats the maximum32bit is going to read. If your going 64bit, shoot for the sky. For vista, 32bit, 4gigs should be plenty. but uh. FSX at 35-40 fps constantly is going to require some tweaking, some overclocking, nHancing, and maybe some bios changes if your going to aim at a computer upgrade costing around 600 dollars.
