Hello all. I just installed the PMDG MD-11 into FSX. in order to do that, I had to also install SP1. I was never a big fan of SP1 or SP2, but I had to at least have SP1 to use the PMDG MD-11, so I installed it.
I would start a flight (in any aircraft) and during the flight I would have to bring up different panels and throttles and stuff like that. As soon I would bring up a panel, or click a switch... FSX freezes for about 30 seconds and then says, "A Fatal Error has Occurred" and I have to shut down FSX. This happens every time I fly. whether it is as soon as I take off, or as soon as I've landed. I've heard of other people having problems with SP1, but I couldn't really find a solution. So If anyone has a clue on how to solve this problem, I would love to get your advise on this.
Thanks for your time.

You probably have the same problem I have, relating to msvcr80.dll I believe. It sounds like this has to do with NVIDIA cards and it doesn't look like there is a fix.

This also happens to me when I click the DEP/APR button on the FMC. FSX freezes, and then crashes. I'm very curious for the answer too.

Yes. As many others have...you might just be the "lucky one" who hasn't experienced this problem. It apparently was reported to NVIDIA about a year ago and no solid fix has been found since. So maybe it doesn't affect 6150s.

I have an Nvidia 9800 GTX, Vista X64, and use FSX + SP1 AND SP2 as my default
environment. Got PMDG MD11 the day it released and I don't have any problem
like this.
Not using the service packs is just silly, they are BUG fixes, its like getting a recall
on your car, and running around saying "Oh I dont want to have that fixed transmission
from GM put in!"
The reason for these kind of crashes are usually some problem in the addon tree,
like a panel dll missing.
Don't blame it on Nvidia and MS

I Don't think this is a Graphics Card or PMDG problem. I most definitely know that it has to be SP1.
I installed SP1 a while back and had these problems, so it has to be it.
I also have GeForce 6150... worked okay before Sp1

I had this problem happen to me as well. I don't know what add on started it, but all of a sudden FSX started crashing. It was a pain, but it wasn't crashing every single flight so I didn't think a whole lot of it. Then about a week ago I bought the new World Of Warcraft expansion yeah I'm a WoW nerd too=P. World of Warcraft had never had any problems on my computer 60fps and no crashing at all. Well I decided to fly this tuesday, and fsx crashed and said a fatal error has occured. I didn't think much of it, I thought it was fsx doing its random crashes. Well I restarted the flight and it crashed again this time the screen went black and no error message came up. So I had to pull the plug on the pc since it wouldn't shut down. So I figured it was just an fsx problem well I loaded World of Warcraft like I said above no problems with it all at before and that game crashed. I tried it a few other times it still crashed, I even got a blue screen error. But wait there's more haha even the startup page where I enter my password to unlock the computer was going all how do I say "graphically weird" crashing and restarting. So my pc guy took my computer, and still isn't sure what's wrong with it.

Thanks to my friends over at Simviation and all there hard work coming up with answers to common problems..... Most of the time this is why headaches occur when updating to newer AC then applying patches.
FSX runs fine... the
problem is you or
your system

Re: Clean FSX, Acceleration, SP1 & SP2 Install!
For those of you running FSX without Acceleration, here is a list to follow should you wish to clean install. It is the same routine as installing Accleration with a few differences:
1. Install RTM, fire up the sim and let it complete the install and boot the default flight.
2. Close the sim
If you have the Deluxe version and want the SDK installed, install it off the DVD now.
3. Reboot the computer
4. Install SP1. Boot the sim and allow it to complete the install and boot the default flight.
5. Close the sim
If you want the SDK install the SDK SP1a.
6. Reboot the computer
7. Install SP2. Boot the sim and allow it to complete the install and boot the default flight.
8. Close the sim
9. Reboot the computer
Make sure you have the latest DirectX installed.

Make sure you have the C++ library update installed.
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=32bc1bee-a3f9-4c13-9c99
(Many add-ons install this update now automatically. I believe Acceleration does too)
8. Start the sim, set up the sliders/checkboxes as you had them. Close the sim
9. Install your addons one at a time, reboot in between and make sure you have the updates for them.
DO NOT MIGRATE the FSX.cfg file you have!
Use it to copy/paste edits but do not overwrite the new file.
The best tweaks are now all in Windows setup and the correct use of O&O Defrag!

Me too. ^^^ No fatal errors since SP1, but a .NET Framework error came up. I installed the latest version of it, so we'll see. But again, no crashes in FSX like I was having before.
