If I upgrade to a 7200 RPM hard drive will that help frame rates? |

I want a faster hard drive and more storage space because the 160 gig HD just isn't cutting it. I wonder if I could pick up a few frame rates in the process.

No frame rate increase; you might get a smaller stutter when loading scenery if you're currently overwhelmed. What speed HD do you have now?
Cheers!

It is a seagate 5400 rpn 160 gig HD. I need more storage space anyway, so I'm considering upgrading, that and they are getting cheap now.

Hey Michael...Post some of your computer specs. It can help DVA members pin down some options for you.

ram will better your frame rates, and the video card, the hard drive will help only a tiny bit but not enough.
Cheers

Since you're using a notebook, upgrading all of the aforementioned parts (especially the video) is going to be different and probably more expensive than if you were using a desktop. Honestly, I'm a little surprised that your current specs are able to run FS9. Out of curiosity, what sort of frame rates are you able to get?
I'm not sure what you're looking at spending but if there is any chance you might be able to switch to a desktop, you would definitely be able to get more bang for your buck.

Gotcha. Well, if you can get by for now, I'd save the money you'd spend on upgrades for the Inspiron and put it toward better components for your coming desktop. I'm guessing the new HDD for the laptop will cost you $100+ in addition to the pain of re-installing Windows and everything else you had before. So, if I were you, I'd save the money, the time and the headache and put the effort toward the desktop.

I saw Newegg had a Seagate 7200RPM, 250 gig HD for under $80.

Keep in mind that the size of the hard drive must fit the laptop - I think that would be a 2.5"... just make sure you don't get one for a desktop

I gone through a few hard drives, but now I resolver my frame rate problem it isen't as big an urgency, but still a larger HD would be nice.
