Anyone use TrackIR? I was looking at it and it looks really cool. Does anyone have it and what do you like and don't like about it? Would it be worth it to buy it?

I'd be interested to hear the cons against it. I'm keen to get it myself but would like to know "the rest of the story."
Cheers!!

I like it but it has its pros and its cons. First off, if you use it on a laptop (like me), its hard to get it to grip to the top of the screen, but you can do it. Also, you have to adjust your chair position often if you move the screen so that you are in sync with where you should be in the cockpit. And some times something weird happens where your VC view goes straight down, looking at the floor, and spins in circles but a good old reset of the position fixes it. Other than that, its great! Its not really designed for laptops but it works good on them nonetheless, just a little bit of tweaking. With at desktop you shouldn't have any height issues. Just adjust your chair so that the hat or hat attachment lines up with the Track IR device. I personally think its a wonderful device especially on takeoff any landing and doing checklists. You really get to move your head and the VC view moves with it just like a real pilot. You really get your money's worth if you have a fully functional VC like PMDG, Level D, etc. I would highly recommend it!

I have had TrackIR (pro-clip version) for about a year now it and love it. It works particularly well with my new 24" monitor and really gets you into an immersive experience. Since cons were specifically mentioned, I'll outline a few very minor complaints that I've found:
1) Since you have to fly in the VC for TrackIR to be of any use, you should have a stout computer to be able to produce the frame rates necessary to make FS9/FSX into something other than a slideshow.
2) Landings and taxiing take a little getting used to, especially if you don't hold your head perfectly level or perfectly lined up with the flight path of the plane. This is easily fixed by centering TrackIR while on final, but I've noticed that I tend to line up to the left of the runway, so it takes some getting used to.
3) In FSX only, the head momentum effect (even when disabled in the cfg file) in conjunction with TrackIR's natural movement makes it somewhat difficult to operate switches and buttons in the VC without zooming way in (moving toward the screen) or going into "precision mode". Some aircraft, such as the PMDG MD-11, come with enough different VC views that you can get a good view of pretty much whichever switch you need, but on others, it's difficult at times to work work the buttons and switches.
As you can see, these are *very* minor gripes and overall I've very happy with TrackIR -- I highly recommend it!

Yes - I'm chiming in. I personally try to only fly with VC and TrackIR. Everything I can say has been said. It ia great - especially for helicopter flight. The only thing I don't like too much about it is in FSX, when you go to external view, the tracker picks up your head movements - nothing that a quick F9 keypress doesn't solve, but is a little annoying at first.
ditto ditto - highly recommend.
