Just as Ryan says, after you uninstall fs9 delete the fs9 folder, then install again. Run a search on your system for the system restore function, this will restore your pc to the date and time you elect. I have had the same problem and 1 of these 2 options fixed it each time. Good luck.

Have you by chance had FSX installed? and have uninstalled it as this can cause FS9 to fail. If you have then there is a fix available.

Graham, there is a feature within Windows XP, that lets you do a system restore.
START -> PROGRAMS -> ACCESSORIES -> SYSTEM TOOLS -> SYSTEM RESTORE
It will ask you to pick a date in the past that you want to restore your system state to. If all goes well, takes about 5 minutes and a reboot. I've used it a couple of times.
Then it's always best to defrag. I use O&O.

No, not if you roll back only a day and you've had FS before then.
Make sure you have the latest Direct X version installed and graphics configured correctly. Try going to RUN and running "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9\fs9.exe" and see if that starts it. If not, I suspect files are misplaced. You should defragment your hard drive or do a reinstall of FS9.
