We'll be fine .... with FS9 and FSX (and of course X-plane) the flight simulator community will continue to grow for many years to come.

It's kind of sad though, wonder what an FSXI or an FSXII or beyond would have been like. FS9 was my first exposure to flight sim and FSX just limps along on my computer. Long live the flight sim community!

Since most of us fly FS9 right now, think of the life FSX will have when everyone upgrades, and addon developers
start making all products for FSX. I'm guessing it will last a few more years.

I agree. FS9 still has some life in it now 4+ years after release. FSX is just coming into its own now ans has not reached its peak in terms of addons. I think it will be good for at least 3 more years. I would bet that MS is only temporarily cutting costs and will release FS11 at some point.. or the former ACES team could go into business for themselves and create their own flight sim

It is bad news indeed, but I agree that there is life in the old dog yet.
As pointed out times are bad and it may (hopefully) be just be a temporary measure to please the accoutants.
It maybe good in a way if it is the end of MSFS as we know it. If they decide to continue later down the line they may get fresh vibrant new minds on the case or alternatively another developer may step upto the plate and release something that surpasses what microsoft can deliver.
Either way I dont think it is the end, far from it.

here is part of an artcle ive copyied for ya all
The closure of Aces marks the shuttering of another major developer within Microsoft Game Studios. Since September of 2007, the company has shut down FASA Studio (Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge, MechWarrior 4: Mercenaries, and Shadowrun), announced the closure of Ensemble Studios (Age of Empires), and Carbonated Games (Hexic HD, Uno). In addition, Bungie, the studio responsible for Halo, left Microsoft Games Studios and became an independent studio, though Microsoft does maintain an ownership stake in it.
Does this mean the end of the Flight Simulator franchise? According to Rericha, "We are committed to the Flight Simulator franchise which has proven to be a successful PC based game for the last 27 years. You should expect us to continue to invest in enabling great LIVE experiences on Windows, including flying games, but we have nothing specific to announce at this time."
