I really hate my PC. My kids have installed so much garbage that runs in the background that my frame rates are rarely above 10 fps. Last night at the online event I had to quit because I was running at 1 fps. Looks like I'm going to have to purchase a computer just for my wife and I and give the kids this one.

man, I am laughing so hard...what you need to do is buy the new FS gaming computer for yourself - and then let your wife AND your kids use the other one
(my wife is chuckling behind me)

2nd computer for wife and kids is mandatory if you don't want to kill all passengers on your next flight

You don't necessarily need to buy a new one, unless you just want to. Trying uninstalling that mess, running spyware/malware checks, virus checks, see if that helps. As the absolute last resort you can completely reformat and reload the operating system, all that from scratch. Amazing how fast computers will run when that happens. =)

grab some freeware registry checkers, spybot, ad-aware, defragger, and a startup managing program (like startup cop). You can prevent all that nonsense from loading up in the background, clear out a whole pile of bad registry lines, uninstall some of that crap (my wife had about 30 google games loaded), and then defrag...and you should be good to go.
Better yet, treat yourself to a new PC (build it!) and save yourself more future aggravation....

2Gigs is the minimum recommended RAM for FSX... probably a good idea to switch out those two 1GB sticks with two 2GB sticks.

Bruno...it happened to me within 100 yards of my destination gate while taxiing at KATL after a 2-hour flight (and that was with 4Gigs RAM)....I was told to make sure that my swap file is as big as possible....sure enough, windows had it set to the absolute minimum.

Jack Read this That Page file does not have to be as big as the Amount of ram installed. 3072 is all you need. FSX or FS9 is a Must read, Ask Drew, Terry or Chris.
PS Drew, what was the issue you wanted to talk about, when you get free time Shoot me an email. Thanks for the faith Guys......

Anthony--great link with a ton of info. I did set my VM to 3072, which was the most XP let me....but what I missed was the setting of the lower limit to 3072 as well. Thanks for passing that along--I had seen some of NickN's stuff, but not something this extensive.

I think I may be contacting Mr. Piasecki when I get my refund for the taxes I overpaid last year. That is if President Obama doesn't take it all away from me so we can buy new sod for the National Mall. I have a pretty good system that can run FS9 maxed out with pretty good framerates, but I hear Tony can work majic with a new system!

Dear God I want one!!!
Outbursts aside, I really need (want) a dedicated computer for FS. I love my laptop to death but when I get 10fps with squawk box open and about 5 whenever I'm on an approach in major traffic (low frame rates could also be attributed to the CS757 and the other numerous add-ons)...It's a little sad.
Okay, the frame rates aren't that bad (in regard to what I'm used to) but on approaches they drop from about 20fps durring cruise, to 15-6fps depending on the airport's scenery and traffic volume.

A second computer is a great solution but if the finances aren't there, there is a much cheaper solution. Install a second hard drive and load XP on it and set it up to dual boot. When you are ready to go gaming, just boot into your gaming operating system. You can get a 500gb drive for around $50 or $60 these days.

Yeah guys.. I just built a new unit last spring. I was running a pretty sweet puter that I had custom built a couple of years ago and I had everything known to man available for fs2004 installed including FSLive Traffic and had all the sliders cranked and never a glitch. Computer was an AZUS case, amd 64, 2 gigs of ram, and a radion 9800 pro.. But when I bought FSX and installed it..? HOLY COW.. I could barely get it to work with no addons and the sliders were'nt even close to being pushed up at all.. I faught with it for a while but finally decided I had to get some beefier hardware so I ordered a complety new custom computer.. This one has the ANTEC G-Skill case, intel duo core Q6600, 4 gigs of ram, nvidia motherboard, with a GForce 8800GTX and a 700 watt power supply. I can crank FSX up pretty good now but trying to run FSCopilot and FSInn and with the fleet aircraft installed and trying to ACARS to work and all it's started freezing up on me and I can't get half of the stuff to work anyway even if it does'nt freeze.. lol.. If it's not one thing it's another.. Maybe I should try that regestry cleaner myself.. I don't really think I have any programs other than those required to do DVA flights, running in the back ground either.. I always make sure I shut down messy, virus scanner, and the whole nine yards.. FSX is just flat hard to generate but I sure love it when it's working right.. It works great if I just go in and fly and don't try to use all the addons for DVA.. Go figure.. lol. Been killing myself over this stuff not working for me and I'm stumped.. Have'nt even made my first flight yet.. Think after the past 3 days of pulling my hair out I'll just take a nap for like two days, and then try again..
