you may have to upgrade the bios for it to recognise a newer Quad core CPU, sometheing about microcode, but newer bioses support newer CPU's.
Yor best bet is looking for a manual for the actual motherboard.
The chipset should be ok with a quadcore, the q6600 is reputed to be a very good choice especially if you want to overclock it. I have the Q6700 and it is happy to sit overlocked at 3.2GHz all day, could probably get 3.6GHz with a little work.
It really does depend on whether the BIOS can support a particular CPU.
