I'm looking into getting a cheapo laptop. I was just wondering if fs9 will run on the intel 4500 graphic chipsets. Does anyone have one of those? I see that best buy has this cheap one: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9197022&type=product&id=1218056227005
I'll probably end up getting this one: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9167689&type=product&id=1218041150488 but was just wondering if that 4500 chipset will work with fs9.
Or if any of you have a recommendation. I don't plan on spending over $650-$700.
here's what I want at least:
2.0GHz+ dual core
4GB Ram (2gb ok)
250GB HD
Chipset to run fs9
Price, lower the better, but upper budget probably $650-$700 shipped&taxes

I have this one: http://www.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/xpsnb_m1330?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19
It can run FSX and FS9 just fine.

What graphics card do you have in it?
That's above my price, but what I would like to know is if Intel's new 4500 chipsets work with fs. I had an older Dell Inspiron that worked with it. Bought a ACER with an Intel chipset and it didn't work. The Inspiron had a Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 900, the ACER one I don't remember but it's max was 224MB shared. I know the nVidia and ATI ones work. So I was wondering if these new Intel ones work with it.

never mind, ended up grabbing one with the ATI 3200 in it... but others might like to know if the Intel graphics work if you have one...

i can safely say that you will get 10-15 fps in the PMDG with almost maxxed settings and Squawkbox with an ATI Express 200M and a Turion 1.8GHz processor. Because those are my specs.

Kevin,
I have Dell Vostro 1500 (running XP) from work which I fly on with FS9 when working away.
It has a Core2Duo CPU T7300 @ 2.00GHz
2Gig of RAM
an nVidia GeForce 8600M GT 256MB GFX card
It runs FS9 ok with everything maxed out although it does stutter every now and again but I guess that 4 Gig of ram may slove that (well 3.6Gig)

I use a laptop as my primary computer (in college) but it is a macbook pro, so I can't offer you tooooooo much help with the cheap computer end other than cruising newegg.com or tigerdirect to see what you can find like an Asus, acer, or Dell. Just whatever you do, MAKE ABSOLUTELY sure it has a separate graphics card (not integrated) with DEDICATED memory at least 512mb. If you get an on board card your graphics will suffer.
Enjoy,
RD
