The UPS guy just dropped off my UTX and GEX from Flight1 (about 3 biz days delivery BTW). Popped them both in, took off from KATL in the C172...and
INCREDIBLE! I can't believe the difference! FSX looks 100 times better, and no frame rate hit....although I'm concerned about memory usage and the dreaded "Out of Memory" error.
Now....what else do you guys recommend? Flight Environment X? Active Sky X?

Yeah, go for Active Sky X or Active Sky Advanced as they call it now. It gets you live weather 24/7, which I think is priceless. Besides, it isn't a frame hit at all...

You should REX, which includes all the features of ASX but more. You should post some pics! I'm also considering GTX, UTX and REX. I'm curious as to what they look like.

Hi Jack,
Besides specific sceneries, four components go into making up the simulated terrain we fly over. Landclass, terrain mesh, textures, and auto gen. You've purchased the best texture and auto gen addons available (in my opinion). Landclass and terrain mesh can also be upgraded significantly. Terrain mesh is the 3D "wire frame" the textures cover. Landclass simply assigns specific textures to their proper places.
I have'nt upgraded my landclass yet. I'm researching a freeware landclass offering but have'nt done it yet. For terrain mesh I use FSGenesis. It makes a big difference in mountainous terrain. In the mid-west...not so much.
I was leaning toward FEX for the sky but only cause the GEX/UTX folks seem to insinuate it works best with their products. I don't know weather thats true, and alot of folks here swear by Active Sky.
After getting involved with DVA my head has been inside the cockpit. I kinda forgot how good the world looks.

Hí, sorry for my dumb question, but what is UTX and GEX? I'm in the process of upgrading to FSX and do not want to miss something that could improve performance

Ground Environment X Enhanced is a payware upgrade of the ground textures and auto gen objects in MSFS. Take a look here: http://gex.flight1.net/
Ultimate Terrain X upgrades roads, bridges ,rivers, railroads , shorelines, and incredible night lighting. http://www.flight1.com/products.asp?product=utxusa
You'll be able to find your street in the sim with UTX. I think these 2 products are must haves, but thats just my opinion. There are competitive products by other developers.

Yesterday I flew KLAX to KLAS. On the longer portions of the route, I found myself spending a lot of time in the outside view looking around in awe. I've flown to Vegas about 10 times in the real world, and the realism of UTX/GEX is impressive. I actually had a pretty bad landing because I got behind the plane on final looking outside.
Los Angeles is also impressive--I'm going to have to do a LAX to SFO run.
Craig--thanks for the input--I was wondering what REX gives you vs ASX (ASA?).

REX ( http://www.realenvironmentxtreme.com/ ) has all the features of AS, but also has a bunch of other goodies (flight planner, great graphics improvement, night lighting etc.) Andy K. has it, he had a thread or two a little while ago about it to.. Supposed to be a great product.
I, myself, am also thinking of getting all three; GEX, UTX and REX. ( ) once I save up some.

I can't afford a big performance hit. FEX...REX...Active sky X. Hmmm.... From a performance standpoint,I wonder which offers the most features for the least hit? Time to do some research I think.
1st look indicates FEX is just a pretty sky addon...no weather engine. I'm more interested in accurate high fidelity weather than pink clouds, but Active sky has no puffy cloud textures...mebbe both?

I'm afraid if they call it REX 2.0 (not SP1) we will be pushed to pay $$$ for that

Craig, there are low cloud resolutions available with REX that cause no performance hit. I have no performance hit with the HD textures, although I have a relatively high-end system.
Nikolay, they have already stated that it will be a free upgrade to existing customers.
