Hi, I've just purchased a new PC with the following configuration: INTEL Q9550 processor 4GB DDR3 RAM Gigabyte EP45 CDS 3 maain board and NVidia GTX 285 VGA card. The first question is the OP system. I've read about 64 bit XP. Heard that it is not reliable any hints? If I install XP 32 this config would be able to use the 4 GB RAM? Is it worth trying Vista? What about using squawkbox FSUpc and other sovtware that needs to be running for online flying. Finally FSX or FS2004? Right now I use XP 32 bit and FS2004 and having great fun flying online ( VATSIM ) and are a bit worried about the future regarding the new gear. I'd appreciate any help which way to go.

Nice high end hardware, should run FSX like a dream. The way I see it the software is so
cheap you are foolish to not have both, that way you can see the difference yourself and
make the decision which you want to spend time flying. Once you start flying in the
beautiful world that is FSX you won't look back however
I would stay away from XP 64 (I have and ran it for a time), its this interim product, not
quite XP, not quite Vista. I had more weird little issues running that than either regular
XP or Vista. My system today dual boots either a 32bit XP which is there more for a
debug/sanity check than real use :), or Vista Ultimate 64 which I love (well, as much
as a Unix software engineer can ever love a MS product anyway :).
XP 32bit won't really make your hardware shine, but it is a standard, its like buying
some race car and then putting this low octane fuel in it, ya, it will putt-putt along
more relaibly but then why did you buy that car... HMMMM?

It is not a matter of money. I have access to both operating system, though never heard of Vista Ultimate 64 but that is my problem. I've been thinking of dual boots anyway. What about the little gadgets like squawkbox and the others under Vista and FSX. I really enjoy flying online and if it is better in FS2004 i'll stick to it. The main reason for my hardware upgrade is speed especially flying in crowded places where my current system lets me down with 10-12 frames making landing quite difficult. With these issues in my mind speedeing up FS2004 with a better hardware is OK, but I cannot get the thought out of my mind that I will miss something that only FSX can give to me. I'm a realworld glider pilot and the glider issues in FSX especially the towing plane is very tempting. The other thing is dirext X 10. Is direct X 10 worth changing to FSX? Thank you very much for the help I'm not a computer freak but realize that though I don't really like it, still have to deal with technical problems to get ample results.
