On the last three flights I have lost communication with ATC. I am not flying online and I am using Flight Sim X. I have ATC throughout my flight, but after they give me the final heading and tell me to maintain my alt until established on localizer, I hear nothing from them. They give me no clearance to land and when I land, nothing either. This has happened in the past only a few times. What I do is starting the process of picking a new flight and save it at whatever airport I am currently at. But it has happened the last three times I've flow and it is getting frustrating. Now, the only thing I can think of that I am doing different is the way I am landing now. I have been reading up on the CRJ manual and have been trying fly as instructed. I'm still learing, but I can't imagine that I am doing anything different to cut the ATC off. I would appreciate any help how to turn the ATC back on without having to pick a new flight and start from scratch. Thanks!

My solution is fly online.
Also, RC4 (Google it) is an ATC program for offline flying.

Thanks! oh, I will flyon line in the near future. I sitll want more experience before I do. I am still curious, though, at why I'm losing ATC with FSX. It has to be something I'm doing because I really have not had that problem before.

Hey Mel.. I've noticed the same thing here.. As long as I was just flying in the sim running nothing but the sim.. Everything was fine but when I fly using ACARS and running VATSIM weather. I too experienced the same thing these last couple of flights.. Just last night I flew a leg from KSAN to KSLC and the same thing happened to me.. After initial vectors etc. I never heard another word from ATC.. And the same upon landing.. No "exit runway when able" or anything like that or "contact ground" nothing after initial vectors.. Very strange.. I too would like to know why..?

Are you sure you've contacted ATC after a hand off, clearance etc..? When I used to use FSX ATC, sometimes I would acknowledge a hand off, but forget to tune to the frequency and contact them.
So if you're saying that it's happening after vectors for the approach - are you sure you're contacting tower, after a hand off from approach (etc, etc...)?

You know Carl I never really thought about that but I'm pretty sure I do.. I know we get very busy on Approach but I always remember to click on the ATC When prompted to "contact salt lake center" etc.. But I will keep that in mind the next time I fly and see what happens.. It very well could be that I simply messed up.. Don't know how that could be possible but anything can happen I guess.. I thought I was wrong one time but I was mistaken.. You know I'm kidding right..?
Thanks Carl I'll pay closer attention and make sure I'm doing that.. I have had my hands full trying to learn all this stuff since I joined so I could be just getting brain overload.. lol

That's possible, Carl. I have done that before when I first began flying, but I went a long, long time flying since and having ATC work well. I was thinking it was unlikely that I would make that mistake after flying all those hours. However, as I said in the original post, I'm trying to fly more realistic and following the proper guidelines for take off's and landings. I could be concentrating too much on what I'm doing in the cockpit than what ATC is telling me. I will watch it more closely on my next flight. I would like to know, though, if there is a way to get the ATC back once that happens. I get frustrated restarting a flight from scratch instead of going to a saved file. The only way I have found is to restart FS and start a new flight. I have tried just ending my current flight then clciking the saved flight, but that doesn't work. I'll let you know what happens on my next fllight. Thanks everyone!

No problem guys.
I usually have my hands full at that phase of flight, so it's possible. I'm not really sure what else it could be. When I started using my Wilco CRJ addon, FSX ATC would quit on me during preflight (when I pressed 1 or 2 for the options, nothing would happen). The way I fixed this was; save the flight, then reset the flight (Alt>Flight>Reset). It saves everything but small things like the position of the seatbelt and no smoking signs.
What happens when you bring up the ATC window? Are there options available?
I hope we can get this all figured out.

My last flight, ATL to LEX, I watched the ATC carefully and this time I made sure to tune in the frequency; it worked all the way this time. Now, when it does quit, when I bring up the ATC window, there are no options. I will try your fix if it happens again. Thanks!

It did it again. I kept an eye on it making sure I contacted the tower. This time, ATC cleared me for landing and I landed--it was then that communication was lost. I reset the flight just as Carl instructed, but it did not bring the ATC back. There must be a way to bring it back with out having to go through the process of starting over and picking out a new flight. I read the help on FS X, I though that perhaps I was cutting off the ATC somehow (there is an option for that), but it had not been cut off. Of course, this is not a great problem, I just don't like having to start from scratch every time. Maybe perhaps, it has to do with one of the airports on my flights. My usual schedule is from LEX to ATL then my next flight will be ATL to RDU, then back the nexct time. Today, I landed at RDU which is where I lost ATC and the last time I landed at RDU I lost ATC. I lost it at ATL also, but I know of two times that I lost it at RDU. I find it hard to believe that would have anything to do with it, but it is curious.
I am positive that I contacted the tower correctly, at least they cleared me for landing this time. Also, ground control said for me to exit the runway as soon as I could. THAT was the last thing they said. I clicked back on and there were no options to choose from on the ATC. That leads me to believe that I did not do anything wrong in my communications. Perhaps I made an error in some other way, though. Maybe it's just a bug in FSX. Thanks!

Yeah, this definitely sounds like an FSX burp. KATL is kind of the "Bermuda Triangle" of FSX (at least on my machine). Maybe you could post a screenshot of the ATC window so we can see what it looks like?
