Effective Sunday, 15 February 2009, Delta Virtual Airlines will begin a 30 day trial that will require Stage 1 CRJ pilots to fly their 10 flights required for promotion to Captain on ACARS. This requirement already exists for every other program except for the EMB-120.
You can download ACARS in the Fleet Library and a manual exists in the document library. If you encounter problems using ACARS or need help, create a helpdesk item or email one the Chief Pilot or one of the Assistant Chief Pilots for help.
At the end of the 30 day trial, we may continue the program permanently or roll back to a non-ACARS requirement.

From above:
"that will require Stage 1 CRJ pilots to fly their 10 flights required for promotion to Captain on ACARS."
So the answer would be no... it is only for First Officers flying their 10 flights to make Captain

I like ACARS anyway it files reports for you at the end of flights. Better than just a testimony of flight in my opinion. I think there should be an exception for those that dont have broadband or cable Internet though.

Well i flew a number of non-ACARS flights, and some people thought i was cheatin...
So i've done over 110 flights now under ACARS...Some times,i just have time enough to get in 2 short-range flights,so i dont use ACARS,but later will use ACARS....

I agree with you on that point David. There are a lot of times where A) my internet is acting cooky and the connection isn't strong enough to keep ACARS running, or B) the connection isn't there at all!, or sometimes ACARS itself may be on the fritz. I don't let that stop me from flying so I fly offline and just file it when I get a chance.
I do agree though that ACARS is an awesome tool and I use it whenever I fly (so long as above doesn't happen )
