I'm in the market for a new video card since my Ati card recently died on me (after 2 years of service). I've always used Ati cards but I've heard good things about Nvidia and especially the 9800GTX series. I'm thinking about this card: http://shop3.frys.com/product/5806253?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG
Is the 9800GTX still a good card or is there something else I should be looking at? Is there anything by Ati in the same price range that will blow my socks off?
I had to put my old 7300 card back into my computer for the time being and it's horrible so I'm picking up a new card this weekend. I'll probably go to Frys or Microcenter to get it.

IMO that's an excellent card, one of the best you can buy for FS...even a 9800GT would work very good for FS.
For less money you can buy a Ati HD4850 (awesome card for the money) or with a little more money you can buy a HD4870 that will have a better performance than the 9800GTX+ ... BUT ... if you plan to use it for FS I would say buy the 9800GT or 9800GTX+ (or a better one) but stay on Nvidia for FS ... the HD4870 is an awesome card, it really is, it shines on games.. but doesn't work like it should on FS .. Nvidea cards works better on FS.

I have the ATI 4870 and let me tell ya its a monster. I prefer ATI for FS9, but not FSX. The new ATI cards do not apply anti-aliasing to the clouds so in the end you get good performance with 24x AA and 16x AF and Adaptive AA on. I have Payware planes, scenery, FSGlobal, Flight Environment, Ground Environment, Activesky, and all runs blistering fast. Also I have done tweaks to the FS9 cfg to allow FS to send more data to be processed since when FS9 was designed nothing that's out today was around. In the end I have a very good flight sim experience that's better than your Average Joe simmer.

That's the card I have, bought at Newegg, Nvidia and EVGA in particular are a good choice.
Course your ultimate performance will depend on the system you plug it into, the OS you
run, etc etc but its a good piece of the pie.

Why not shoot for the newer 260? the prices are relatively comparable to the 9800 (around $200) and looking at tomshardware there is a decent performance gain over the 9800.

You won't see any gain difference on FS by using a 260 instead of a 9800, not even at very high resolutions .. of course videocard matters, but FS is more CPU dependant than GPU.
1920x1200, GTX260 = 30.30fps, 9800GT = 33.50fps
You will see the difference on other games but not on FS.

I am using the Nvidia 9400GT with FSX....don't be afraid to set the frame rate to "unlimited".
at crusing altitude I'm getting about 47fpm....drops down to the mid 20's at lower altitudes and dense populated areas.
