I was finally able to install FSX on my computer and tried it out...however, it runs very laggy in spots. I have tried to lower the settings but it is still not up to my FS9 program...thus I decided to delete the FSX version and stay with FS9. This is where my problem enters. The FSX program is about 14-15gb. I know what I had for space on my HD before I installed FSX...I went through the Add or Remove Components process and it started to remove FSX. This took a long time and at what had to be the very end, it froze my computer. I rebooted and went back to Add/Remove and hit the FSX remove again...it disappeared very fast...so it is no longer showing in my Add or Remove program list. I then looked at my hard drive and lo and behold the amout of free space was just the same as if I had never removed FSX, and I had just spent about 45 minutes with the Add/Remove process removing the game. So I decided to delete it manually...which I did, however, that only freed up about 3gb of space, which means that I am still about 12gb of hard drive space short of where I should be and the program is now totally removed from my hard drive listing. I do not know where the other 12 gigs is, but either the system is misreading how much space I have on my hard drive or there is another 12 gigs of FSX still located somewhere on my drive. I am frustrated and do not know what to do...I was thinking of reinstalling FSX and going through the deletion again, but that may only add ANOTHER 12 gigs of lost space. I do not know what to do...any ideas?
Thank you...
P.S. I will never install FSX on this computer again...this has taught me to be happy with FS9....

Yeah Rich you have to upgrade your puter for FSX to run well.. If you're running FS9 at the edge of performance limits then there's no way you can run FSX without upgrading your CPU and RAM etc.. I noticed that you said you went to the "add remove programs" in your control panel to uninstall the sim.. I really don't know but maybe you should have used the FSX uninstall module to get it uninstalled properly..

To be honest Rich.. Fs9 is a great program it really is. I also have both I use FS9. The FSX eye candy is nice but all I care about at the end of the day is frame rates and fluid simulator motion. So Fs9 is good. (all my payware is fs9 anyhow)
regarding the space. if you are SURE that FSX is gone.. well try this.
DISCLAIMER IF YOU ARE NOT FAMILIAR WITH WHAT I AM SAYING ASK FIRST. DONT FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS UNLESS YOU ARE SURE YOU UNDERSTAND THEM.
Click Start
click my computer
Local Disk C:
program files
microsoft games
see two there? Should be Flight Simulator 9 and Flight Simulator X
obviously if you made it this far right click on Flight Simulator X and select DELETE
are you sure (answer appropriately! )
that will delete FSX from your machine if the files are still there and the add remove choice is gone.
empty your recycle bin
and
then
click start
all programs
accessories
system tools
disk defragmenter
Run it.. and let it finish that will move all your files around and make your hard drive faster.
It should take a while.
if any of this is confusing or out of your league dont just do it.. post a follow up question. That will give you the FSX space back if that directory is still there and the defrag will make your machine run faster potentially.
any probs follow up here.

Thanks John. I have gone through all you have said above, I have even contacted Microsoft. Somewhere I lost 12GB of Hard Drive space. and all because I wanted to have some of that "eye candy". Well I learned my lesson, I am back to my old FS9, which I love, but now I am 13GB the loser. I don;t know what to do...I have looked everywhere, under My Documents, Program Files/Microsoft Games, I have used the Add/Remove process, I have done a file search for Flight Simulater X folders, I have done everything. I have done a registry cleaning, a defrag, you name it, but I have lost 13GB somewhere and I know it is tied up with my faulty uninstall of FSX. It has to be there somewhere, but I do not know where to look anymore. Thanks for all the help.

I don't know if this has to do with my original FSX problem/post or not, but since I have had the trouble uninstalling the FSX program from my HD, I have noticed that my HD is always blinking now...like in the old days when there was an error with a load? It is almost like my HD now is constantly showing an error mode by the constant and regular blinking. What could cause this? and do you think it has anything to do with my uninstall woes of FSX?

Rich, try using a defrag tool other than the windows built in one as it is very buggy and not very efficient. I suggest Diskeeper. They have a 30 day free full functioning trial.

I do and it is not in the defrag...somewhere during the install/uninstall of FSX I lost 13GB of HD space...oh well, maybe it will turn up someday....Does anyone know what , I think it is called "CONFIG.MSI" is for? I noticed when I did a defrag after I had unsuccessfully uninstalled FSX the defrag program took a very long time defragging that folder. Any possibilities my lost 13GB is in that?
Thank you all again.
