Right now I have FSX on my PC and it runs pretty slowly. If I install FS9 on the PC with FSX, will it run just as slowly, slower, or better?

It will run faster. FS9 is an older FS version.

If you're asking weather or not installing FS9 will make FSX run faster the answer is no.. They're to completely seperate versions and have nothing to do with one another. But if you don't have a pretty good computer then you're better off using FS9 because it's easier to generate. FSX eats up frame rates pretty bad without a pretty good "gaming" computer..

The key to run FSX is to know how to set it up. There are many settings that will not improve graphics at all and will only reduce your FPS. First of all, you must be running FSX with SP2, which I assume you already do. Next, you must optimize Windows, update your drivers and set up FSX correctly. Check out this thread. If you follow the information there, your FSX experience will suddenly change.

If you followed the thread and you are still not happy with frames per second, you can search the internet for FSX tweaks.
I know it can be very time consuming and even frustrating at times, but is it worth it. The graphics in FSX will never be matched by FS9. Needless to say, in one or two years almost every simmer will use FSX, because good hardware becomes cheaper. Can you tell me your specs and your OS?
Let me know if you need any assistance. I will always be here to help...

Yes Marius I have taken many pains to get FSX to run well on my system and I have pretty good computer.. Q6600 duo core, 3 gigs of ram, 8800GTX etc.. And still had to do alot of tweeking things to finally get it to run at a realitively smooth 24 to 30 FPS.. But it is worth it.. I had lots of addons for FS9 to make it look really good and was looking at some old screenshots the other day and there's no comparison to FSX.. I would never go back..!! lol

Brad - no. The two programs have absolutely no influence on one-another

Andy is right, the two programs have no influence on one-another, however after you install FS9 you should do a complete system defragmentation.

Yeah.. The only reason I got rid of FS9 after I installed FSX had nothing what so ever to do with the performance of FSX but rather I just didi'nt want to take up that much disk space.. (almost 14gigs) for a sim that I was'nt going to use anymore anyway.. Other than that I see now problem with having both installed and lots of guys here do have both..
