Hey, I got two little quesitions. Firstly, why do I've to go through an B744 FO Examen if I'm already allowed to fly the Queen? Do I have to "fear" a checkride, although I've flown it several times? If, I guess, I will not do it, cause... I could fly the queen and get miles without doeing an exam, just by staying at my old Stage.
Somehow, that makes no sence to me.
Cheers Chris

Chris,
The intention here is...If you already had the rating, we wanted to allow everyone who had the rating to keep it.
Nowdays, you do not get the 747 rating by passing a 777 CR.
Since there is an official program now...just like any program...you have to take a test and CR to enter it.
Hope this makes sense to you!

hmm... well, if an airline got a certified B744 pilot who flies B767 usually, he still remains an active 747 pilot until his licence expires. If we apply this system to DVA, esp. with the background of some fulfilled flights in the "queen", there shouldn't be a problem with transfering into the 747 programm, likewise into the T7s program. I know what you mean, Robby. We, Germans, have a similar problem with our real car driving licences and the European one. But, once the licence is issued, the gov't cannot downgrad it. Thus, the old licences expires at the age of 50 while new issued expire every five years (Truck!).
Regards,
Chris

The way the website code works, when someone enters a program for the first time, they must pass the First Officers exam and the Check Ride - regardless of any ratings the pilot may possess.
Of course, if you already possess the rating and have lots of experience in the aircraft, the F/O exam and CR will be super easy for you

Well I have been flying the 747 for years and I have no plans for a check ride in this bird. I am already certified to fly it by Delta and I do fly it day in and day out. How well do I fly it? Sometimes very good but I bounce it too. Check out my log.
Next for me is the 727 rating.

Ahhh humbug...no worries..learn it, fly it, love it. I had the 744 rating too. If I have to do another CR, so be it...another bridge to build, another river to cross. Bring it on..LOL!!

Christian there is a difference between being rated and being current in an aircraft. Your are correct that once a pilot gets a type rating in an aircraft, in this case the 747 that type rating will always stay on the pilots certificate. However, the pilot must maintain currency in that aircraft in order to act as a crew member. In order to act as PIC the pilot, as part of that currency, would have to complete a proficiency check every 6 months ie check ride. Also, you could have a situation where you have a pilot with 10,0000 in a 747 who goes to a new airline or a company and has not flown the 747 for a year, they would still be required to take a check ride because they would not be current in the aircraft. As a side note, pilots at airlines have to take written tests each year as part of currency requirements so consider it good thing that DVA does not have that same requirement.

Mr. DeSantis, we have rules in order to obtain a type rating. We need to do an exam and a check ride. Furthermore, we have rules about how often we have to fly in a certain period and, in connection to the type ratings, which planes we are allowed to use. No question about it, it shows the pilots ability to handle the aircraft and his interest in flying for an virtual airline.
However, this time some of us have already received B744 type rating and, moreover, have proved our ability to fly it. Insofar, I don't like the idea of undergoing another exam to show what I've already done before: the ability to handle the B744.
Don't get me wrong with this, I'm interested in getting the FO license for B744 for everybody who has already shown profound knowledge and is interested in becoming B744 FO. I don't want to indicate, that somebody did something wrong or God knows what. It's just about a little advantage, which should be considered, shouldn't it?
If not, I'll quit asking.
Cheerio Chris

How have you proven your ability to fly the airplane? You got the rating when you passed your 777 checkride. You have never taken a 747 specific test or checkride in the past at DVA since neither one ever existed until recently.
It's simple, if you want to join the 747 program, you have to take the written and the checkride. EVERY program is like that. If you really know a lot about the 747, they should both be extremely easy. If you just want to fly the 747, then go ahead and keep doing it. You have the rating, which allows you to fly it and log hours in the 747.
I see where you are coming from though, it can be confusing in that you can fly the 747 just like the pilots in the 747 program can, but you have to take a test and a checkride though to join that program. We are going to run into the same problem with the Airbus 320 program in the upcoming weeks.

Christian I was rated to fly the 747 because my MD-11 Check-ride and actually I have filed more than 60 flight with the QUEEN before the new program came out
so because the rules I had to start everything over again I don't see anything wrong with that...... RULES ARE RULES

I have no real interest in the topic per se, but I agree with Christian,
everything that western civilization and science and culture is about
happened because people weren't sheep, they questioned and BROKE
the rules.
So, take your exams and checkrides, but don't learn the wrong lesson
