I was thinking of buying the Wilco CRJ for FS9 however I noticed just like in real life there isn't an autothrottle. Is there a way to add an autothrottle to it?

First of all: get it. It's a great aircraft with amazing systems and a great model. It has a few bugs, but there's always a way around them. About the autothrottle; just as you said, the RW CRJ and the Wilco both don't have one. It was a shock for me when I found out, because I was so used to not have to worry about my speed as much. However, now that I have been flying the wilco for about 5 months, I have gotten used to it, and I prefer it too. I think it gives you better control of the aircraft, and when A/P is on, it gives you something to "do".
A way to get used to it, is to keep flying the fleet CRJ (or which ever one you have been flying) without the autothrottle on (in the fleet CRJ the "SPEED" button is an autothrottle.) I'm not sure why the fleet CRJ includes it, but you can just turn it off.
Also, in the RW and Wilco CRJ, the "SPEED" button is a setting where the A/P will maintain a certain speed by adjusting pitch. Not quite an autothrottle but close.
I hope you found this information helpful!

Yeah, the Wilco CRJ is a great product and I completely agree with Carl here. This is the only plane I fly that doesn't have an Autothrottle, but I love it. As Carl said, it gives you something to do throughout the flight. I'm still trying to learn how much throttle to give it on approach; the flaps seem to add a lot of drag. The speed feature is nice too! As Carl said, it'll maintain pitch to your desired speed and throttle settings.

Wilco CRJ shows its age, the graphics are crude compared to their more
recent EJets package, and the E170 actually DOES have an autothrottle
so you might think about that.
Depends what your expectations are I suppose. I run on FSX not FS9, I
have a 24" widescreen monitor and I want my cockpit to look good at
hi res, the Wilco CRJ doesn't.
There are also little glitches with the aircraft FMS every so often that
drive one nuts. Don't get me wrong, i LOVE the real world aircraft and
I will buy a PMDG implementation in a heartbeat, but I find that every
time I try to fly the Wilco CRJ I just get annoyed and switch to the E170
or Airbus instead (both very good Wilco products).

Yeah I noticed that too Jack in my Wilco CRJ.. The graphics in the virtual cabin are'nt as good as the default CRJ if you ask me.. It is fun to fly the plane tho and I really did'nt have much trouble with not having autothrottle, but the FMS was tough for me to figure out.. I'm sure that's the same on all "real" models tho.. It's the graphics thing that I don't like about it tho.. I was very unimpressed with that part of it when I got it..

Yet it is still the best CRJ as far as systems go. I guess you have to choose between what looks good and what is good. I'm for the latter.
The FMS could be better but it still works. While the Wilco is getting older, it still remains at the top as far as quality.
