Just wondering if anyone has delved into the wonderful world of solid state yet? I currently run FSX off a Velociraptor ... and was wondering whether anyone can speak to performance?

Not a clue Steve. I was planning to invest in a Velociraptor dedicated to Windows and FSX. How much of a performance increase do you see?

An SSD is on my TODO list for the next upgrade, but that is looking like a 2010 proposition.
Cheers!

Actually i see more of a performance increase just in loading times of the applications i run more than anything ... guess i really don't have a benchmark from my old drives to work from. From FSX perspective I notice that i don't get as many blurries ... of course 'your performance may vary' ... and a pc is only ever going to be as fast as the weakest link in the chain.
I just love the concept of instant loading ... i'm sure SSD will solve a number of texture related 'challenges' that people face ...

Yeah, those SSD's are expensive, Wasn't it like a $500 option in the MacBook Airs? It should be alot faster, and you probably don't have to defragment it either.

For the price tag I will Stay with my V raps, nothing in That Video that impressed me for a measly 2 seconds, just like the V raps the SSd's will take a year to develop, then I may think about it, Got to agree with Luke there 20101 sounds like a winner.

I must admit i am impressed by the size of the drive and its standard SATA connection, however for the price i would much rather get a Velociraptor or two
Thats when i get the money of course !

look at this, its a review between SSD's and HDD's and how to make HDD's as fast as SSDs. its very interesting. but remember, an SSD will only make things load faster, once its on the ram its up to the CPU.

Given the small size that SSD's come in currently, 32GB, you're going to need a devoted one just for FSX and I just can't justify the price for a devoted hard drive. I know if you run RAID on your HDD it's makes it all around faster, especially on boot up

ya SSD's sound great, and they are def. worth it in my mind especially for a laptop (with less pwr consumption). the only prob is is that im too poor to afford it
