Well, I completed my FIRST CPU Build yesterday, hooked up the machine to my monitor, mouse and keyboard and got to the BIOS screen. It seems everything is working as it is suppose to at this point. I am waiting for my new Operating System to come, probably the end of next week. I went with Windows XP Media Center, I currently have XP Home, but thought I would go with Media Center for my new OS. Since this was my first build I was a little nervous, my biggest anxiety was about the BIOS settings but reading the manual helped out a lot. Of course, the true test will be when I try to install the operating system and install FS9 and FSX. I plan on staying with FS9 but will probably use FSX a little until I can get some payware for it. I have posted my specs in prior threads but here they are again. I hope you enjoy the pics.

Thanks guys...it was easier than I thought it was. I had very little experience but everything is pretty much just plugging things in. Fortunately the tower I got was big enough and the side panel that the motherboard went on came off so it was easy to put stuff in. I plan on taking out the sound card from my current CPU and putting it in the new one. I can't wait to get the OS installed and run FS9 and FSX for the first time. Maybe that will happen next weekend.
Daniel, I will let you know how the E8400 works for me. I am sure it will be better than the HP AMD Athalon 64 3700 that I am running now with a 7600 GS video card!

Sweet! You have the same power supply, graphics card, and CPU as me! Except when I bought mine my graphics card fan broke and my power supply had a short in it. (This is my third defective power supply) I must have bad luck...

I've got the E8400 as well. The stock fan was a booger to install. I ended up, after it popped out several times, to by a Artic Cooler fan. Be interested in this summers' heat to see how cool it keeps things. Of course, my case is like a giant funnel with all the fans

I have had the E8400 CPU since June 08. Never had a problem with it. Runs FSX maxed-out like a charm. No need to over-clock it.

Excellent, I plan to build the exact system in a month or less... ASUS P5Q, 4 Gb, etc, etc but still deciding the CPU, E8400 or Q9550
Thanks for sharing the pics and congrats on your new system

Gee, buying new hardware now Charly, why not go for i7 (Nehalem), I would.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131358R
Kick some SERIOUS butt
I bought my hardware a bit before it was available, else I woulda...
PS Eric, nice system, close to mine, i have a 9400 cpu, Intel MB (employee purchase ) and DDR3, but similar otherwise,
mine runs FSX at high settings with rarely a complaint, I love it!

Yeah, you have a point there Jack.
The problem with the i7 it's not the CPU since there's almost no difference in price between a i7 920 and a Q9550 .. but yes on the price difference of the Mobo and the DDR3 memory if you compare it to a LGA775 system.
I can't justify to pay the double for a mobo and memory to have a 4 fps or less real difference in a game, 'cause even in a multicore game like Supreme Commander both CPU ranked similar ..I don't encode video to see a wow! difference between the i920 and Q9550 at stock speeds .. maybe I should wait until they release the i5 or new CPUs so mobos and DDR3 memory starts to drop in price... anyways back to reality and my 'uni-core' AMD CPU

Thanks for your feedback guys. I plan on using FS9 for awhile until I can get some payware for FSX. It is good to know that my system should be able to run FS9 and FSX maxed out because I like the graphics FSX has and really want to improve my graphics for FS9. Some of the pics I see of FSX on the forums really are impressive.

Do what I did Eric, buy FSX if you don't have it, and grow into it. Heck just the intro missions
are a lot of fun compared to FS9, specially now that you can buy the Gold edition.
And buy only new stuff for FSX as you go forward, my opinion anyway...

Only one choice right now, Wilco 737 PIC, its the 300-500 series, but it flies really well,
FMC works and has full Navigraph support. I'd get it even if PMDG NGX was out, but
maybe not first OH, and with your new rig be sure and fly from the VC, it rules!!

I think I may end up waiting until PMDG comes out with the NGX. Hopefully it will be like the FS9 plus a little bit more. I cannot wait until I can get my OS on the new CPU and get FS9 up and running.

That is a serious system. Look forward to seeing it in action.
Now that I think of it, why do you just pick up a copy of XP Pro? Home and media center are pretty worthless IMO.

I have a E8400 also, 9800gt, 2gb DDR3. I can run FS9 max, and FSX with all sliders full left, except I leave the autogen density
on normal. And the cloud draw is at 60nm.. Other then that FSX runs pretty smooth even in some heavy weather.
