hey guys sorry if this question has been answered before. I was enroute to Kahului from Seattle and I've had a failure related to my avionics. is my flight report going to be held if I have to divert or deviate from course?

I think you have to fly to an alternate airport listed in the DVA system. You have to note that it is a diversion in your report and fly a subsequent ACARS leg to the original destination. ACARS will not let you takeoff and land more than once.

if you are flying KATL-KSEA and you have an emergency and you have to divert, at lets say KSLC, you have to file the flight report when you land at KSLC. but in order to get the hours and to get the flight approved, you must fly KSLC-KSEA.
hope that makes sense

exactly, i learned the hard way... i was flying a 757 from las-ewr and had to return to las to due engine trouble... i didn't get credit for the 1 hr flight even after i completed the las-ewr flight following the diversion...
weird that you can divert to another airport but cant divert to the origin.... i thought the real decision should be if you returned to the nearest suitable airport... not like the real world if you ask me...

George answers this in the NOTAMS:
\Flight Diversions
From time to time, flights may divert due to mechanical or weather problems. Diversions need to be made at least halfway through the flight to airports served by Delta Virtual Airlines or its codeshare partners. If landing at the alternate airport results in an invalid flight leg, this leg will be held. You should continue from the alternate airport to the original intended destination. When completed both legs can be reviewed for approval.
NOTE: Delta Virtual Airlines will not approve a flights when the Departing and Arriving airports are the same. If you have a reason to return to the departing airport, the flight will not be approved.
Approval of any diversions is within the discretion of the Vice-President of Operations, and Delta Virtual may reject any diversion as seen fit.

Thomas,
understood...
just doesn't make sense that acars will create a failure but you cant get credit for returning to the same airport you left from even after completing the intended leg...
cheers

Such a pain that flight was. Had to hand fly for 3.5 hours with no IRS, just an occasional vector from ATC. Drove me mad, lol.

Frank, my un-educated guess is that ACARS can only simulate so much. I'm guessing that's why you have to be within a certin distance from your final airport center (something like 10 miles?) for the flight to count. Just a numbers game. I don't think it's anything more than that.
