For several days, while flying in FS9, the computer will suddenly go 'blank' and re-starts thus losing all my work. I have flown in different configurations: VATSIM, no VATSIM, ACARS, no ACARS, FSTime, no FSTime and just normal FS9 using their ATC and traffic. But always with the same result....the computer blacks out and re-starts. This only happens when I have FS9 started. Anyone know what is going on?? I drives me crazy!!

I have a TON...I think 4Gbytes. I bought this computer just for FSX and decided that FSX wasn't worth all the problems and went back to FS9. I also have dual graphics cards.

Heat possibly. What temps. When you installed FSX, did you install SP1 and 2 after? Did you reboot?
Get SpeedFan (Free) and see how hot it is when you crank up FS9.

random restarts is also a sign of a failing PSU. try swapping it out with another one and see if it still reboots.

I installed FSX, didn't like it, then UNinstalled it. There was one feature that I liked....hit the 'X' key for a screen snapshot. How do I do that on FS9?? And SP1, SP2??? I don't even know what that is.
I looked at that link, Andy, and decided not to download it. I don't think heat is the problem and downloading these free utilities generally cause other problems with your computer down the line. But thanks for giving it to me.
I agree with David, random restarts are usually a sign of a failing PSU, OR hard drive, OR a loose memory board. But in this case it ONLY happens when FS9 is running.
I am thinking there is corrupt or 'missing' file somewhere in FS9 and maybe I should UNistall FS9 and re-installing. What do you guys think?

I think its the 767-300 and 400 installer....The computer seems to crash ONLY when I'm flying this particular plane.
Any thoughts?

yeah - don't fly that particular plane. - not sure why you say these Free Utilities cause issues..never had a problem with them
To take shots in FS9 you need a Free Utility...lol...I use Snapper - been using it for years - without issue - ever found here:
http://www.ovosoft.net/snapper/
When in doubt, you can also roll back (System restore) run a nice defrag with something other than the default defragger (I use Ultimate Defrag 08, and still use O&O on my other computer). When you uninstall a huge program like FSX and then reinstall FS9 you really need to defrag.

Andy,
Thanks for that 'snapper' download. I'll try it and see how is works.
Regarding defragging: I defrag all the time, sometimes 3 times in a row (you can never do enough).
I've had problems with free software utilities before so I don't like to download un-necessary free software.
What do you recommend of 767 software that is recognized by Delta?

AW right! I think I figured out the problem with this re-start.....
It's FSINN. I just finished 6 flights on SquawkBox3 and not one
disconnect. Unprecedented using FSINN.

Hi Andy,
I still had a few problems with this computer shutting down even tho I went back to SB3 and unintalling FSInn. So I decided to download that link you sent me for 'speedfan'......It keeps the CPU at 69-71 (degrees) and seems to have solved the problem completely. Once, the computer shut down during an FS9 flight but 'speedfan' wasn't running at that time. It's hard to believe a pcs of software could solve this problem. It's frustrating to plan and execute a 2 hr flight just to have the computer shut down an hour after departure.
Good work!!! I will listen to you anytime!!!
