I was looking at wanting to install the 9800 (I have an 8800 GT) but wondered if it is worth it. Will I get any higher frame rates from this card as opposed to the original?
I'm running FSX, on Windows Vista Ultimate.
Thanks.

I doubt it. I have the 8800 as well. Back in December I was going to get the 9800 until someone said it's just a overclocked version of the 8800.

They're pretty much the same thing, except the 9800gt is 55nm and the 8800gt is 65nm. An 8800gt is currently what i'd be drooling (metaphorically) over.

If you want a significant increase, get the new 200 series such as the GTX 295 which is a dual-GPU card. There is also the GTX 285 which is a single-GPU card, the new version of the GTX 280.
The GTX295 is the newest and fastest card on the market today but costs are high obviously ($519.99 at newegg.com - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814500094 )
The GTX285 is a single GPU but costs less and is still better than the 8800 . ($319.99 at newegg.com - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130442 )
Depending on your patience level, you can wait for the price of the GTX295 to go down, then again at that time, another better card will be revealed...Oh well technology bites!
I'm still debating (and waiting for extra money to decide) when to upgrade (changing both the CPU and graphics card - just upgraded my BIOS on my MOBO to accomodate the new technology).
PS. make sure you get a descent cooling system for the card as it runs very hot!
Hope this helps...Good Luck!

The 8800GT is the same as the 9800GT, except that since the manufacturing process is different, the 9800GT is easier to overclock (65nm on the 8800GT compared to 55nm on the 9800GT). Unless you intend to push the limits of the card, there is no point in getting it. For FSX, maybe SLI or as Sean said, the GTX 295. IMO, because my budget computer can run FSX at pretty high settings and get a decent 20fps, you really only need a GTX 275 or GTX 285. GTX 295 seems like overkill for a game that came out in 2006.

I am running an 8800 Ultra that has been a rock solid GFX card for me. I get 30+ FPS in the air and around 20 - 25 FPS on the ground.
