Hello:
On my other VA "AirSource" I mostly fly long haul stuff, which is what I really enjoy and is one of the reasons I haven't been more active, as I am only in the 757 program. I found a flight to Kiev using the 767, which I am not rated for, but I am rated in my program for the DC-8 which has a rated range of 5,500 and from NY to Kiev is only 4,685. The reason I ask is because it is my understanding the DC-8 is now mainly used for cargo, so it would be a bit unrealistic I guess, but believe it or not I really like those long flights and really do sit there the whole time except for bathroom and a snack break or two. I just kick back with some smooth tunes and let her go. I find it very relaxing.
Bill
My apologies if this shows up twice; it didn't appear on posting when refreshing the page!

Your choice. If you are rated in an aircraft that will make the distance - you can do it anyway you like. ACARS will only time compress to 4x...you can walk away from the CP if you want. If you are flying on VATSIM, 30 minutes is there "away" rule. Your call.
Some folks will stay at the CP the entire flight (less bathroom/food breaks), some floks start long hauls online, the go offline for the overnight part (while sleeping) and get back on when they get up. There's a different way for each.

Drats!!!
I messed up. My rating is for a DHC-8 NOT a DC-8 ;-( . Luckily I can use an A310 and I have an A310-300 series which is rated in excess of that distance, but I have to put in our panel thingy to work with ACARS. O well.

You don't have to add anything ACARS related to fly the flight. The ACARS panel (status bar) in cockpits is pretty much for information only on the status of your link to ACARS and portion of flight (Taxi/takeoff, etc.). You can fly any plabe, by any maker and still use ACARS.

When I do long hauls, I make my self start the flight around 10 or 11 PM EST so I know I won't overshoot the airport. Just wondering, do any of you use Flightsim Passengers any version on long hauls? I don't.

I use FSPassengers on pretty much every flight I do - whether FSX or FS9

Thanks for the info on not having to put the ACARS bar in my plane. I may be able to get this started tonight then (I didn't get up until 6:00pm, I am a disabled distance education student, so I don't have to work like the rest of the chumps ;-) ) Thanks a buch for the info. I am no good at stuff like that. Makes life a whole lot easier.
