I have noticed that most of the times when I am flying over a highly detailed area or into an airport with traffic near by, FSX crashes and a dialogue box will come up that tells me I have ran out of memory.
Is this problem a result of my hardware specs or is it a flaw in FSX that can be corrected?
Here are my specs:
AMD Athlon 5000+ (OC 3.2GHz)
4GB RAM
9600GT 512MB Video card
Your suggestions would be highly appreciated.

Kevin are you running Vista ? If so there is a little meter that you can get called a cpu gadget that you can watch. It will tell you when you are about to run out of memory. are you running 2 or more screens? If so put it on the second screen.
Background stuff will eat memory, like email, Google Earth is very bad. And your settings, traffic, road, ships, turn them off you don't need them, they eat up memory fast. And you might have to delete your config file.
Cheers,
Jerry

About Windows 7,
Should I download it? I am not willing to download a RC of an operating system that says it will restart my PC every two hours before the expiriation date. Does Windows 7 fix most of FSX problems?
Thanx
I would like to know because I am getting sick of the OOM or CTDs of FSX.

Windows 7 RC expires on June 2010 and will start to give you "alerts" about that on January 2010, so you have about 7 months left aprox ... you can use a separate drive just in case but always backup your important data.

Windows 7 might still be an issue. Even though it's in RC, there will always be bugs that Microsoft has to eliminate. I can't get it to work on my VM, all I get is a blue screen after start up. Might want to revert back to Vista or XP and see what happens.

I am not sure if Windows 7 has it, but I know vista has a feature on it called "superfetch". What it does, is it pretty much eats up your entire ram to cache your most commonly used programs so they start faster. Well the problem with this is that with games such as FSX, it can't dump the cache fast enough to let FSX eat more RAM. What I did and I highly suggest doing is turning off superfetch which will probably help if not solve your problems. To turn this off, type in "services.msc" into your search bar after clicking the windows icon, then look for superfetch, right click and disable it. Restart your computer and try FSX then.
