It's actually not a glitch John.
There are quite a few Delta flights branded as NW and vice versa, NW flights branded as Delta. Flight 764 will never show up as a Delta flight in any schedule. Try this and you'll see. On Delta's home page go down to the flight status option and put in 764 and tell us what happened ...Also use the second option for airports and do PDX AMS and see what heppens. The direct portland flight won't even come up. It will only show PDX-ATL-AMS which out of sheer coincidence, ATL-AMS will show as an A330 but have a Delta flight number. Punch in that same flight number on NW.com and it won't come up...but the PDX-AMS will.
Yeah kinda funky but things will be like this for a while. Atleast until the begin to operate under one reservation system.
As for flight aware and it showing as DL764, it has to because for tracking purposes, the actual airline operating has to show. If you put in a random Connection flight number say 4557. On here it shows as DL4557 but on flight aware it will show as ASQ4557 (Atlantic Southeast).
Hope this helps!
EDIT: To answer your ultimate question, for ATC/ VATSIM purposes, I would fly as DL764 but in the schedule it will automatically show as NWA764 as that is what the schedule says.
