Which version of FS, and what settings are you running.
If it is FSX and you have settings anywhere near maximum you will get low frame rates. FSX is notoriously greedy and unless it is tweaked properly can cause low performance.

I'm running i920 at 2.8Ghz with 6GB 1066 RAM and a 9800GTX+ video card (512mb) ..... FSX is simply poorly written, IMO. There are a lot of very high end and intensive games our there that run fantastic on lesser rigs. FSX is just a hog, not too much you can do about it.

Yeah, I got FSX thinking it would run fine. It turns out, on my new rig with a 2.8GHz Core 2 Duo and a 4670, I can't even do a flight with a payware aircraft. What's worse, I bought it at the beginning when FSX was $90. What a waste.

What is your standard of low frame rates? I tweaked my rig which I consider slightly less powerful than yours and I get around 20 to 25 FPS when running some general scenery, ASA, and PMDG 747

You all need to stop bashing FSX...have you installed SP1 and SP2 (or Acceleration)? Have you actually speant some time tweaking the settings? FSX, although it does have its issues - can run fine if you actually spend some time tweaking it. It took me a good week to get it running fine on an old HP Media Center CP...I have since upgraded - but same, same applies.

I have an i920 similar to Michael Browns overclocked a little more to around 3.6 (different ram). I am managing 30 FPS slider set to 30 max. The picture quality outside the window looks great. I can be in the CS 757 VC and i have imagine sim CVG and the lowest i see is 23-24. Search the threads for all the tweaking to do. If you bought an ATI video card you will not see the frame rates the nVidia ones are getting. it is documented at Tomshardware.com.

i heard somewhere that movies use 25FPS, so if your getting anything better than that, your game is 'smoother' than a movie

I have a dual core e8400 with 4 gb of ram and a 9800GTX 512mb card and mostly fly the MADDOG 08 payware on FSX and get around 20fps on the ground and anywhere above 30fps in the air. This is with sliders maxed. Didn't do anything special other than follow the nhancer settings and it works great! I think if you get over 20fps you will be running smooth.
