The appropriations committee has just found an extra $100-150 dollars and daddy needs a new video card. http://www.pricewatch.com/menus/m37.htm Anything up to $150 that you can recommend is appreciated. I want a blance between userability and performance. I also want something modern so it isn't an antique by the time I get it in the mail.

Matt,
If I am not mistaken, on one of the post Luke was telling very good things about ATI 9500 Pro. I am also considering to get that card also. If you do before me, let me know how it works out.
Good luck.

Actually, you have two options. The first is to keep that money from burning a hole in your pocket until the new nVidia 6800 and ATI X800 series come out later this month. At this point the 9800 series will drop in price. You *might* be able to get a 9800XT or Pro around the $150 mark.
Your other option is fleaBay. I picked up a 9700 (non-Pro) for $120 a few months back with no problems. You should start seeing the 9800s get onto the market for decent prices soon.
What you want (at least in the ATIs) is the highest series number. Don't sweat the Pro part - that's usually a 10 or 20Mhz boost in the GPU/RAM speed. My 9700 non_pro absolutely spanks my 9600Pro, since the memory bus is twice as wide.
Cheers!

One thing I would really wait for is the new PCI Express Motherboards...its going to render AGP cards useless and obsolete very quickly...and the GPU perfromance blows away the top ATI and Nvidia AGP cards by so far a margine that it's almost unbelieveable.

The new cards are going to be great - even though I am currently an ATI fan I'm delighted to see nV keeping the boys from Markham on their toes. Competition keeps everyone moving forward (which is why I also love AMD).
Given Matt's budget, I don't think PCIe is an option - but you're right about waiting. The new cards will definitely stretch his budget to where he can buy what was a "top of the line" card 12 months ago.
Cheers!

I use a ATI Radeon 9200 and absolutely love it. I know it is an older card but I updated from some 8mb card that is total junk. My ATI also blows away my brother GeForce and were baught at about the same time for the same price, $100 at Best Buy. You could probably get a ATI Radeon 9400 or 9500 maybe a 9600 within the 100/150 range and if so, I would recomend those t you.
GO AMD!
