so here's the thing. I've been trying to do more flights more frequently ever since I reinstalled flight Sim. But now I am remembering why I stopped using this simulator. Back in October 2008.
The flight Sim seems to want to crash while I'm in midflight not while I'm on the ground. Not while on taxiing nor am I taking off. It's always a good two hours and 20 minutes into the flight. The thing is, is I have not reinstalled any payware packages. This sin is using only freeware aircraft no scenery whatsoever. And yet , flight simulator still wants to crash. I've done the uninstall check the registry in deleted all remnants of FS 9 and have done a clean install. And I still run into this problem. I honestly do not know what to do. And this continues, I won't be able to fly until I purchased x-plane
so in a last ditch effort. I am looking for some help from somewhere. Or links to older threads that give some useful tips/advice/solutions. I apologize if this seems rather confusing, and truly a random rant.

ok,
before anyone can help we will need more information about your PC: cpu, memory, etc etc etc
does this crash happen when running ACARS or not?
Does it happen with default aircraft?
does it happen were ever youy are flying or just certain routes?
have you patched FS to v9.1?

The machine has 2gb of ram currently.
Its running Windows XP SP3
With an Intel D processor 2.4ghz
The machine itself is 5 years old. With no actual upgrades. Cant afford them until Christmas if I am lucky.
FS has been patched to 9.1
It happens when I am and when I am not using ACARS
Again it happens every single time I fly anywhere.
I think thats it

Sounds to me like a heat issue.

Andrew, if it's a heat issue wouldn't the whole computer shutdown rather than just the sim? Miguel, my advise to you is to completely whipe out your system and install everything again (operating system, FS9, anything else you want).
But before you go through that trouble, to see if Andrew is right, I suggest you run this program http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/SysInfo/Real_Temp/ and post your tempatures here.

I am truly hoping to avoid reformatting the drive and installing the system . There is too much to be backed up.
And Nicholas I could not run that program. It said the processor was not supported.
Are there any other ideas before I end up reformatting my drive?

Andrew is right it could be a heat issue.
Oveheating cam manifest itself in various ways, a shut down would happen if the CPU was WAY TOO HOT, close to its thermal shutdown temperature.
The CPUor the memory overheating can cause data corruption which can lead to apps crashing and BSOD's if the OS crashes.
Try coretemp
http://www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp/
and check that the CPU heatsink is clean and free from dust.
My brother complained that his PC was noisey and slowed down...i removed a "block" of dust from between the fan and the heatsink (it was literally a solid piece of dirt), it is quieter and faster now as it isnt overheating.

That program says that the intel processor isnt supported either
I will have the machine taken apart and cleaned, and if that doesnt work ill reformat
Thank you
