I have an E8500 @ 3.16GHz Socket 775, I believe it is the cause of my FS stutters. I have the HD 4870 Graphics Card.
My CPU temperature is a whopping 90*C! I'm hoping that this is my problem.
Hoping to buy the heatsink, cut my temp in half and remove the stutters.
I will make a trip to Fry's Electronics tommorow. I would like to know which heatsink would be the best for my CPU as well as FS2004.
I never thought that a CPU heating problem could cause stutters.

Yeah, 90degC is a little warm for a CPU, but i have read that the Wolfdale temp probes arent that accurate.
Currently the best Air cooler is the Titan Fenrir TTC-NK85TZ
I have the Xigmatek HDT-S1283 which is a Dark Knight without the LED fan and Black Nickle plating, it is a very good cooler and was the best at the time of purchase.
Either of those will be a good purchase but I dont know Fry's so don't know if they carry those...

I found it:
http://www.frys.com/product/5883753
I have a 750W PSU. That's enough correct?
Should I go with that one? Any problems reported with it?

Wow, how in the world did you manage to bring up the temp up to 90C?
Did you apply the thermal paste correctly?

Well I added a small amount only to the CPU top. Spread about the whole chip.
Maybe I didn't add enough? I will check out the state of my CPU later today after I take out the stock Fan and Heatsink.
I won't be using my PC until I go buy it, find it to be too risky. Although I wish I knew of the heat problem earlier.
In the beginning of building my rig we were having problems putting in the HS and Fan. Had to take it off more than once since my rig wouldn't start back then.

Actually, there's gotta be a very thin layer of thermal paste. A lot of it could cause heating problems.

Well I just opened my computer. The Stock HS doesn't have dust or anything and the fan works too.
By the way my CPU has both power connectors connected. The ATX 12V connector I believe.
Might that be the problem that I'm putting too much power into my CPU?
Here's the image of the connector:
http://web2.murraystate.edu/andy.batts/ps/ATX12V_Cropped.JPG
My PSU has the capability of splitting the power connector. I have all 8 Power Pins connected.
I was reading that using all 8 is fine. Is this right?

yeah,
you need both the 20ish pin Motherboard power and the smaller 4 - 8 pin power plugged in.
As david says they TIM (thermal paste) needs to a a thin layer, less is more.
It is actually only meant to fill the tiny imperfections between the 2 surfaces of the CPU casing and the botom of the heatsink to work best.
You would be best getting some artic silver with the heatsink as the stuff that is supplied with coolers generally isnt great and why get a high quality cooler and hinder its performance with an inferior paste. you really only do need a tiny bit and spread it out with your finger tip covered with a baloon or something...BE CAREFUL NOT TO GET ANY ARTIC SILVER ON YOUR FINGER AS IT GETS EVERYWHERE AND LEAVES MARKS ON EVERYTHING YOU TOUCH FOR HOURS
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RAhlgMz2www
There is a vid from youtube of some guy showing how to do it.

Wow! Thanks now I see my problem! All this time I believed it was my graphics card.
The guy in the video only added a small drop! I applied like 4 times that amount!
I will go out to buy the Heatsink today and I will remove the thermal compound and add some more. Although this time very little!
Thanks, and may this be the solution to my problems. I am writing to you from my laptop, so my desktop will remain off until fixed.

he actually applied about twice what i use, but I have had lots of practice of applying Artic Silver (and getting it over every surface I touch - hence the warning)
I hope that it solves your issues.

Ok well I just removed some of the thermal paste and assured it was a right amount.
I reseated my Stock HSF.
Upon rebooting the PC I went into BIOS and the temperature was reported at 75*C but it wasn't long until it began climbing back up again to 92*C this time!
Now I really think I need a newer better HSF. I'm about to leave my house in about 10 minutes to Fry's Electronics.
I will report back.

hold on there,
what thermal paste are we talking about? if you mean the original gunk on the stock cooler it isnt suprising that your temps are the same.
once you remove a heatsink, you need to remove all trace of TIM and reapply new.

Bonjour mes ami!
Hello everyone, I am talking to all of you from my rig!
Great news, I bought a newer HSF a Thermaltake and Arctic Silver Thermal Compound.
A miracle of going from 92*C to 30*C!! I have checked FS and it seems like stutters are gone too!

Would you guys recommend me installing FSX?
I have it but haven't used it because of the stutters problems. Maybe they are gone on FSX as well?

Wow, that's quite a difference. I'm glad that you have manager to get your temps under control
I have a Q6700 quad core overclocked from 2.66 to 3.33GHz and FSX would run like a slideshow at times despite following every twaeking guide out there.
I ended up reverting back to FS9 because the only true way to get FSX to run at settings that I would be happy with is to drop a bundle on an I7 rig and I dont have that kind of money available.
To be honest, now Im running FS9 with virtually everything on 11 I can't tell the difference except there I more stuff that I can buy to addon to FS no and there isn't much danger of when I do install anything it ends up turning FS into a slideshow again.

I don't know if they even still make them. But I used a Jet7 fan on my custom system a few years ago. Looked like a jet engine. Loud but very effective!

You might try lapping your cpu, and your heat sink. I was able to drop my temp. about 10 degrees. Google up CPU lapping, to get the idea. I use a 12x12 inch piece of thick glass.

Hi Daniel,
Do a Google search on CPU lapping, as there are much better u-tube instructions then the one you have.
Cheers,
Jerry
