Yes those 2. There is no equipment transfer exam. You must pass a First Officer exam (same material) then take a check ride.

That is PRECISELY it. I personalyl giggle when people say.. HEY.. I cant find this answer to this question. It is a dead giveaway that people didnt read the 2 manuals.
NOW that being said.. I when I started and all the way until I got my 777 Captains title didnt know or READ About the flight encyclopedia.
THAT was important because those fuel questions were always questions that I "winged"
I cant remember which ACP told me.. that answer is in the flight encyclopedia. and lo and behold there was the answer.. right there.. the calculations and.. the other hard one I used to guess at that was about starting descent or something like that.
Now I get 100% when I take tests and I know how to calculate the answer.

The Aircraft Manual is most important, and the Flight Encyclopedia #2, as it has alot of general aviation questions. remember that the exams are open book and the PDF files are searchable, but if you read them beforehand, it'll make a big difference.
Good luck

Oh good thanks for the heads up. The AOM is MUCH SMALLER than the encyclopedia!

Thing is.. I think you will find as you become more hungry for this aviation stuff. You are going to want to dial your game in. That encyclopedia has SO much stuff in it but it is delivered very efficiently. It is like getting a full primer on being a commercial airline captain in a small box. You will find like me when you read the thing cover to cover. OH.. so THAT is how i am supposed to do that. Well now THAT makes sense. etc.
I remember i paid 40 bucks for a book at the bookstore that's title was
IFR in Microsoft Flight Simulator.
yeah.. that is covered in one chapter.. the whole way of doing it..
The Aircraft manual absolutely without a doubt is the best for the test.. the Encyclopedia if you really ARE addicted to this stuff like I am. You will want to print it.. 3 hole punch it.. put it into a binder and read it with a nice cup of coffee.

Something else to keep in mind - if we ask a question in an exam - i.e. what is the xyz of whatever airplane you are taking an exam on - those answers ARE in the equipment manual - in fact, if you google the answer and use that instead, there's a good chance you'll be wrong - no matter what the real world websites may display, the AOM is what the question and answer are based upon. You can argue six ways to sunday where you found the answer on abc website, but the fact is, it is in the equipment type AOM.
Most people that fail an exam would easily pass if they would only read the AOM....
