Wait 2 months for windows 7, if you can't wait I would get vista. Vista comes with a free windows 7 upgrade, and is alot like windows 7.

I'm using the latest 71xx build of Windows 7 64-bit and it runs both FS9 and FSX alot better than XP or Vista. Vista is nowhere nearly as streamlined at Win7, so if I were you, Mark, I'd get XP and wait until the release of Windows 7. So far I'm seeing nearly twice the performance gain using Win7 64-bit.

So we don't get the free upgrade if we already have Vista before the offer?

No. Hence "Buy Windows Vista NOW, Upgrade to Windows 7 Later." It is like any other promotion. Only is valid if you did something with it when it was first offered. If you had looked a little more often, back in July, I put up a post about how you could pre-order the Windows 7 Home Premium upgrade for $50.
"Program Eligibility Period
PCs preinstalled with qualifying editions of the Windows Vista operating system must be purchased by customers between these dates to be eligible for the Upgrade Option Program.
June 26, 2009 to January 31, 2010"
