Anyone out there running a Phenom II system with FSX? If so, how do you like it?

I believe Weston Woodward and Charly Azcue have Phenom II PC's. I'm eventually going to upgrade, but probably not till next summer.

Well all my questions were answered today, I finally got my system together. AMD Phenom II 945, GTX 275, 8GB vista Home 64-bit. All I can say, FSX is finally fun. Thanks all for all the help.

I'm running the 940 Black Edition, and have it oc'd to 4.0GHz. FSX runs great on it. Along w/ my 4890, and settings set to my standards, I get about 50fps avg But yeah, if you can afford it, go w/ the 965. From what I've heard, if your using an AM3 socket mobo w/ dual channel DDR3 1600MHz, its pretty much just as fast as the Core i7 920. However, the 965 has an unlocked multiplier, so it can ovc higher w/ proper cooling, so if you did it right, you could have it faster than the i7.
Hope this helped
Weston

Yup ... i'm running the 940 BE too ... fast enough for me ... only have a 9800 GTX video card ... only 4 GB DDR2800 RAM AM2+ mbd, but FSX runs very nicely with pretty much everything maxed out. Nice eye candy!

Thanks John. Steve you basically have the same set up as I do. Although my ram is rated at 1066 because i have all four sockets it runs at 800. Kinda funny, I went to get a 9800gtx at the store, and they had the 275gtx for 20 dollars more so i could not pass it up. What kind of performance do you get. I have been tweaking on mine I guess I will never get it the way I "want it" LOL.

I get great performance, John ... nothing to complain about. CPU is very stable ... haven't had any issues ... running 64 bit Vista right now ... may think about installing Windows 7 when it comes GA. How is that 275GTX? I'd be interested to see what performance gains i can get by upping the video card ... RAM would probably be a bottleneck though. FSX runs smooth as butter ;-)

I have mine running 1280 *1024 high quality at stock cpu speeds locked at 35fps. It has to be a big airport with lots of traffic before it bogs down to upper twenties. In a few months, I am going to possibly upgrade to a 955 BE and OC it. I did not realize the 945 wasn't a BE until i had it in the machine LOL. But right now I am really happy. I have far cry 2 at 12x10 8xAA and 16x AF I am at almost 90fps. Its all the video card anybody but the craziest gamer would need with my resolution. Lightning fast. I have the BFG OC Model which is a little faster than stock, the fan is at 65% and it hardly ever goes over 50 degrees celsius. If you cant tell, I really love it. But to your question, I really think it depends on your resolution in fsx, if it would help. at 12*10 in fsx, i really dont think it would all that much. In any other game there is no contest. I hope that helps.

I know I'm dragging this out of the grave here, but had another question about Phenom II processors. Is anyone running the Phenom II X2? If so how does it run FSX? I received FSX for my B-day and am very unhappy with it on my current machine. I am looking at the X2 as a cost saving measure. Thanks,
Brian

I will be installing a Phenom II X2 550 on Friday. Only running FS9 at the moment though. If it seems like it'll take it well, then I'll upgrade to FSX.
