I found a CRJ 900 flight from ATL to NAS and flew it Sunday. However, I could not find a CRJ flight back on any shedule. I, trying t keep it real as possible, like to start from the airport I last landed. My destination does not have to be ATL, of course, but I was surprised at how few flights were in and out of NAS. I'm only rated in the CRJ series so I don't have many choices. What should I do?

I guess my question is: can I fly the route back using the crj? From my understanding of what I've read in other post, I can as long as the plane can safely make the trip.

Keeping it as real as possible - in the real world alot of times pilots do not fly the same aircraft that they flew to a particular location and end up flying either in the jumpseat or as a passenger on another jet. I don't see the harm in you going to another location but if your hardcore point to point flyer then wait the storm out and enjoy the beach.

I just flew back in the CRJ. My flight was accepted, of course. I guess I need to check for flights coming back in the future. Most of my flights are busy routes for CRJ's, but sometimes I like to try something different. I really enjoy CRj's--I know I will have to advance someday, but for now, I really love flying the little birds.

Gentlemen, I posed a similar question to my ACP/CP's shortly after I joined DVA. I just can't seem to comprehend, how if you fly a certain type of aircraft to an airport, there sometimes seems to be no flights departing for that same type? Logic (in my mind anyway) would dictate that if there are flights into an airport, there must eventually be flights out of that airport. The only place that I am aware of this being the case (one-way trips for aircraft) is Davis-Monthan AFB outside of Tucson, AZ. I know that our flight-scheduler is automated, but computers are only as good as the data they are given by humans. Any insight will be appreciated.

Don't forget the aircraft that disappear in the Bermuda Triangle. Flights out of the Caribbean take off all the time and never reach their destinations, so that is probably the cause of the discrepancy.
(And yes, I'm joking)

Every flight does not have to have a return flight right away. Some times you could find flights that have 3 or 4 legs and do not include a particular leg back. That could be the reason.
Example: flight X could be Atlanta-Charlotte-Raleigh, and the flight x back is only Raleigh-Atlanta, with no stop in Charlotte

Erik - Some factors we need to consider are time of year... the same flight might have different equipment at different times of the year. For example, I live in Orlando and there have been RW times where when I fly to DFW on AA, it might be stated that the equipment is an MD-80 but then I show up and they've taken that MD-80 and replaced it with a 757 or as happened a couple of times, got a 1st Class upgrade at no charge on a 767-300
Another factor is that that CRJ plane might not be headed back to ATL instead it could be say headed to MIA (hypothetical situation) but as was pointed out, the NAS to ATL was an MD88.
Make sense?

They actually they do sometimes strand CRJs at airports - the reason for this is that according to the Accumulation Principle, at a certain critical mass they magically meld together to form a brand new Airbus A380. I understand that it is quite a sight to behold!

Brian, I understand that aircraft will very often be re-tasked for any number of reasons (passenger loads, equipment failures, etc.), but what I am getting at is that you can't have ten MD-88's flying into an airport (from any location) and never have a single one leave, regardless of the destination. I have gone into our Flight Planner, to create a series of flights trying to get as many different cities as possible, and on more than one occasion, come across a dead-end, where an "88" flies in, but never has a departing flight. At some point, that aircraft will have to leave. Hypothetically, for instance, in my flight plan development, I start out in my home city of SAV, fly to ATL, look for an "88" departure to anywhere, let's say JFK. From JFK, I would go to IAD, from IAD to BOS, from BOS to CLE. Then I would get stuck, because I couldn't find a departing flight for an "88". I promise you, I have been to CLE, it's not somewhere you want to be stuck in...(especially if some of my ex-girlfriends found out I was there.) When I set out to "plan" flights, I do not select a destination, I'll go whereever it sends me.

Horacio, I know that flights don't always go back the way that they came; no problem there.
And Mike, I did take into account Mel's unfortunate location...
And Garen, Yes, I've heard that can be quite a sight, let me know when the next one is getting ready to take place; I'd love to watch.
Thanks for all the responses.

Erik - Okay I see what you're saying... and just for my own edification... are you doing just DVA flights or codeshares as well Reason I say that is because we (DVA) used to codeshare the 757-200 from JFK to BRS (Bristol, UK) but we didn't codeshare the flight back - hence a potential dead-end there

Joe, I did get your e-mail, but it still doesn't seem to make sense that a type of aircraft (MD-88) can fly into an airport, but there are no flights for that type leaving (destination irrelevant). Brian did explain to me last night once one of us uses a flight number for a leg for a type of aircraft, that number may not be available for use again for another month. I think this may require some on-line verbal communication rather than these posted messages.

No.. The flight numbers are usually used for a while.. they usually only change at the time the schedule changes... some seasonal routes use a flight number and it goes away, and then comes back when the route is flown again. Anyway, I guarantee you that if an MD-88 flys into an airport, it is flying back out. May not be the same day, flight number, or destination.. but it doesnt just disappear..

Erik and I chatted for a while last night.... and I indicated that the flight numbers might change when the schedule changed... Sorry if it came across wrong but were chatting late and I might have transposed words... I didn't mean that once the flight was used, the number disappeared out of the database... When we looked last night at his ATL to NAS, my suspicion was that he flew down on say the Winter schedule but when he went to fly back, we were on Summer schedule (hypothetically speaking) because at the moment all flights to/from ATL and Nassau are MD-88's.
Hope that clears my statement up for all

Uh...guys? If you look back at the beginning of this thread, Mel is the one who was stuck in the Bahamas, not me. I've never yet flown to NAS. I was just chiming in on a similar situation I ran into somewhere else. I think I'll just leave it alone now, and slip quitely out the back, now that I've stirrede the proverbial pot. Exit- Stage right.
