I am presently using FSX with following spec PC,
AMD Athlon64 3800+ (2.4GHz)
Ram 3GB
O/S Windows Vista Home Premium
Nvidia Geforce 8500GT
with my settings medium to low i get an average FPS of around 10-30 dependant on location(ie on ground or in air).
I prefer FSX only for the Multiplayer feature when it works that is.
My question if anyone can answer it is would I be better off with FS9 for my day to day flying as i would prefer to up things graphics wise?

I was running an Intel Q6700 @3.3GHz and for me FSX was still like a slideshow at times and add to that if you wanted decent scenery and addon aircraft that the FPS would drop even more. I had followed various tweak guides to improve the performance, but it still wasnt what I'd expect from a Quad Core machine.
I got hold of FS9 and now run virtually everthing on max with addon aircraft and scenry.
I wont even entertain the idea of FSX again until I can afford to build an decent Core I7 rig as FSX is a real hog

Glen. as Dave said - if FSX is iffy, stick with FS9. I got FSX when it came out on my old computer and I was quickly discouraged. However, with SP1, SP2 and alot of tweaking it worked pretty well - my next problem was heat. So I ended up saving the $$ and getting a new machine. On it I have three drives - one for FSX, one for FS9, and one for everything else.
Additionally, the FSX Multiplayer is a joke, through GameSpy. How is FSX when running on VATSIM?

I agree with you on Gamespy being a joke, but I only use it to have a little fun now and again with friends, I have used Vatsim once on FSX and it worked ok, but until i can afford to upgrade my pc I think using FS9 would be the better option.
There seesm to be a better choice of add ons as well for FS9 compared to FSX and trying to intall any add ons with my PC is pointless as I will be flying in slow motion.

Im glad you asked this question. I got FSX about a month ago, and I was really dissapointed. The graphics are nice, jetways and all, but i Just cant enjoy it. I get about 20-30 frames with traffic on LOW. I really want to have realistic traffic, so I'll probably downgrade to FS9..
My specs:
AMD Athlon 7550 Dual-Core 2.50GHz
Nvidia 8600GT
3GB of RAM
Vista 32 bit
I would really like to continue on FSX but FS9 would be best

performance wise FS9 will always trump FSX as it is just not as demanding, but if you like moving jetways then go FSX.

cedric, how could you not enjoy fsx with 20-30 fps? I lock mine there just because It doesn't really make a difference to me.

Its just that I like to have a realistic feel at airports, etc. So 20 FPS on low traffic, high wouldnt have been even worse.
BUT!!!
i just recently watched this video(again) and WOW. I took his advice in the video, and I can run with medium traffic AND high settings and its the same FPS's if not better than I used to get.

Screw my FS9, FSX BABY!
