I use the i7 920 with a medium range Gigabyte motherboard. Works great for me ... I also use a Nvidia 9800 GTX+ 512 video card, 6GB RAM, Raptor HDD, and some other goodies.

I went for the ASUS P6T6 WS Revolution and the rest is the same as Mr. Brown's. You don't need to go that strong and with the I5's release i would suggest taking a look at it also.

With an unlimited budget, you should go i7 975 extreme with the EVGA X58 SLI Classified, and get 4 EVGA GTX285 Classified editions for quad SLI. Then get 12g of Corsair Dominator DDR3 1600RAM with 5 Velciraptor 300gb HDD's in RAID_0 with a dedicated RAID card, XIGMATEK Dark Night heatsink, sound blaster X5 titanium sound card with a Corsair HX1000W PSU all compiled in the Thermaltake Armor Plus case (because of the need of 8 expansion slots)....
What? You said the budget was unlimited

Justin, the 8800GTX is an old card. Its about 4 generations of NVIDIA cards old. I have the ATI 4890, and it runs FSX to my standards fine. (if you want to see my standards, take a look at some of my shots). If your going to go ATI, then I would reccomend either a 4890, and the 5870's are supposed to come out tomorrow. But on the NVIDIA side, the fastest single card they have is the EVGA GTX285 classified edition. And that card will allow Quad SLI. Now keep in mind FS9 and X will only use 1 video card. So the fastest card for FS will be either the GTX285, or the ATI 5870 (wich will be faster than the 285). However if you play other games like CoD, Crysis, Left 4 Dead etc.. then with an unlimited budget Quad SLI/QuadFire is the way to go

the gtx285 is the best graphics card. Beat 8800gtx by a mile
best i7? i7 core extreme. go along with a 12gb tri-channel memory at 2000ghz......trust me, your machine will scream for fsx name. I wouldn't do vista though.....too many bugs to go through. I would stick with xp sp3.

Unlimited budget? I can think of a beast!
Nehalem i7 965 OC'd to 4.5GHz water cooling, G.Skill 16GB RAM (4x4GB) SDRAM DDR3 2000GHz, GTX 285 2GB 512-bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16, 1000W PSU X58 MOBO.

I say no buget because I will pay for the performance that I want.....I want all the scenery, traffic, and payware aircraft with performance....I dont want to have to cut back the sliders to run FSX how I want..... With that said If I can get the performance for less money that's fine, If it cost me a little bit that's fine too

The regular i7's overclocked would be fine, GTX285, you don't need the latest! 12GB of RAM should be just dandy. Weston's suggestion was best!

Here's something I'd go with:
Core i7 920
EVGA X58 E760 Classified
12GB Corsair Dominator GT 1866 RAM
Why only a 920 you ask? One, it overclocks very well, even though it costs $800 less than a 975. Two, the 975 will be outdated in 4 months, as Intel is releasing a new six-core processor early next year. The 920 is great, and for under $300, it is one of the best valuers out there. Then, if you aren't happy with it, you can drop $1000+ on the new six-core Core i9s in 4 months.

Chuong, you don't have to water cool to get a high overclock. However the only people I've heard about getting it up to 5GHz were using liquid nitrogen.. What multiplier and voltage are you using to get your i7 to 5GHz? I'm using the XIGMATEK Dark Night 120mm with Arctic Silver 5 thermal paste, and my AMD Phenom II x4 940's @ 4.0GHz idle temps are around 18c, and max load using Prime 95 is around 36c.
