It all began with my installation and unsuccessful uninstallation of REPro the other evening. I didn't like it and when I went to uninstall it, it left a bunch of the textures. All my scenery started shimmering and after fighting with it all of yesterday, I decided to start clean again with FS9. Well, things didn't go as planned and now I'm stuck with an FS9 that won't load even off the CD. I'm installed/uninstalled multiple times and get the same results every time.
I'm sure there are still some files or something in the registry still lingering around, but I just can't seem to find any. Any ideas?
Much appreciated,
RD

Have you tried a NO-CD version of FS9.exe to see if that will run?

It don't work either, but it actually gives an error. When loading off the CD it brings up the splash screen for a second or two then reverts to the desktop without an error message.

Are you running XP or Vista? .... also, the installation went ok but now your problem is FS won't load? Correct?

Prior to your FS9 reinstall, did you delete your FS9.cfg file?
Cheers!

I would uninstall FS again via the Control Panel. When it finishes go to the directory and delete all the left overs....uninstall always leaves something. Then go to where your FSX.cfg is located (in the appdata folder) and delete all the FS stuff there too, including any FS directories. Next, start your registry editor using the 'regedit' command. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER then SOFTWARE then MICROSOFT then MICROSOFT GAMES. Delete the FS stuff there. That is the only registry location that I know of. After that reboot the computer. Run the command '%temp%'. This will take you to your computers temp directory. Delete everything in there too. You'll likely get an error that a couple things were unable to be deleted because they are in use. I would then reboot the computer one more time and then try another install.
Good luck!

Sorry about the delay in responding everyone, I've been in classes all afternoon/evening.
I could not uninstall via anything after the uninstallation of REPro. It told me the FS9 Uninstall.exe was missing so I had to delete everything by hand. I tried to clear out the registry by hand (being very careful) and I thought I was squared away. Now FS9 won't load after 3 or 4 reinstall/uninstalls.
I'll keep you posted.

Backup your files and go for a reformat.
Would turn out cheaper on your effort. If you find anything better, let us know.

Ryan - just went through the same - complete reformat of all - reinstall - everything is running fantastically. Also use NHancer - may help out. I went through the registry fiasco as well last week - had Anthony helping me - but the format fixed any problems (actually every problem)...I did the reformat and install of all very meticulously this time.

I think I've got it running fine now, it just seems to get wacky when you start putting add-ons in. I've used nHancer since earlier this spring and it made a world of difference (Those Ejet shots aren't smooth for nothin'! :D). Time to get back to work installing add-ons, as you said, very meticulously.
Thanks for all your input everyone! I'll let you know of any further issues or when I get it back up to speed.

Not that this will help with anyone's current problem. I manually create a restore point prior to any software addition to my computer. Mostly because if it can be done wrong I am the first one to do so. If it doesn't work correctly I go back to the prior system.

Now I have the sight distance issue... it looks like there is just a grey wall out in front of me. I have all my settings like they were prior to the issues beginning. Haven't seen this before...
