When you start up the "upgrade", you will see a menu that gives you two choices: Upgrade and Clean Install. If your PC is currently running XP, you MUST do the clean install...if Vista you can select either choice.
Can't speak for the upgrade, but the clean install went pretty quickly--much faster than my original XP install.
Over the past 15 years or so, I have not had good luck with "upgrades" on the Operating System. Maybe W7 is different. It's a tradeoff--you have to weigh the current state of your machine (does it have a bunch of junk on it? excessive boot times?) vs. the time it takes to reinstall all of your software.
Note that I currently cannot use FSINN on W7--something isn't going right on the install. Don't think it's a general issue, because nobody else has reported this.
